Dear ATA,

Did you wake up this morning and say "oh fuck, we're bankrupt?"

No, I'm sure you didn't. You knew you were going bankrupt for months in advance, maybe even a year. That is why I'm flipping you off right now, for letting me buy two tickets to Hawaii two months ago for this upcoming Christmas, when you knew you'd stop flying long before then.

At least I'm writing this from my own computer in my own house, and not from "Laptop Lane" at O'Hare, stranded 2,000 miles from home because today is the day your planes stopped flying and all of your employees were escorted from their offices.

I'm glad I paid with a credit card, so I have some chance of getting a refund, unlike those who paid by cash or check, who you have so sternly said are not entitled to any money back.

I know if I took a payment for a large sticker order and then declared bankruptcy, I'd be shot in the head the next day. Maybe not even by the people i ripped off, but by some bystander who just thought it wasn't right.

On the other hand, though, it is rather fucked up to allow someone to pay for a service that you cannot provide, then tell the people whose moneys you have taken that they're not entitled to shit in return.

This happened to me a few years ago, only the airline went bankrupt and told us one week before we were set to fly to Florida. Same situation too, trying to give us the shaft for the money. Luckily some other airlines created new flights to fill the void, it shouldn't be that hard to find a flight if they do the same thing this time around.

amazing! we got credited back already. i'm thoroughly impressed with how that shit was handled. the credit card company knew all about ATA being bankrupt and was prepared for anyone calling in about it.

Yeah us too family member is getting married June and we all book for May flight in Hawaiian Air...got the news last week they went bankrupt.
So now family members are shopping for tickets and guess what....everything is $800 to $900 RT compare to our reserved a year ago $199.

Oh well...
