So after my autocross last Saturday, my car wouldn't start. I was going to replace the starter today, but it is just to hard to do it any my school parking lot.

I gave up. A local mechanic just picked it up in a flat bed tow truck. Is it okay to "winch" the car by the control arms

This is the first time I had to have it towed off. I can normally at atleast "rig" it to drive it to the shop. My family mechanic (we have used him for 5 years) is 2 hours away, so I hope the shop I found is good. I choose the one with the biggest ad in the phone book

well, normally i'd go for the smallest ad in the phone book, cuz that means word of mouth is doing pretty well for them. Anyway though, don't worry about them pulling the car that way. They definately should have used the tow hooks, but control arms are hella strong, I don't think you'll have a prob.

did they "dolly" the dragging wheels?

not necessary for the few feet it's being pulled up onto a flatbed.

If its the starter, why not just compression start it and drive it there?

Seriously, if the starter is all that's wrong, than you can push start it and get it to the mech, or home at least. If it doesn't start that way, then you have more probs.

Well, it can be push started. One of my friends did it. I suck at it though.
Do you roll the car downhill in second with the clutch out, then drop it?

Just sit in the car with the clutch in and the shifter in first. Have some friends push it. Once it starts rolling fairly decent pop the clutch. If it's in second the car will have to be going faster to start.

YES!!! TURN THE KEY ON!!! you have to turn the ignition to the "on" position as you do this. i recommend starting in 2nd, as it's not so much stress on the tranny. but yeah, you just put it in gear, roll the car, then pop the clutch. it'll lurch, and it should fire up. but if you didn't have the key on, nothing will happen because the fuel pump won't turn on.

Since he said it was a manual, it could be compression started, but still... mabey someone should have asked if it wasn't an auto. Cuz they cant.

lol... well i kinda realized that, but what i meant was do you have to turn the key while poping the clutch, like as if you were starting the car normally, but i get how to do it now... my friend showed me...
