Shaddy used car dealer in SoCal.

So my friend picks up his first coupe, decent shape auto trans but got hooked up with Otis at RB-Motoring for a 5speed swap. So car is good.

We were on a time schedule to find car same night. I look on Craigs list found a few at this place called United Motors in Downey. Guy had shitload of 240's mostly junkie, but hey its his first car. So the guy after we pay him and he hands keys tells me that these cars are well know for being stolen and that his past customers call him sometimes after a day or so asking him about their missing car. I was like WTF??? He keeps on yappin about how easy it is and so on(raised RED flag)

So lastnight someone tried to take the car from outside his house....
Not sure if it was them, but it sure is wierd to me.

Then I find out it's the same owner of the Expo in LBC which I hear some of you mention about this before.

Well this is to make you guys aware of who you deal with and protect your property and yourself.

when my dad was on a hunt for a supra, they wanted 50k for a 93 NON TURBO manual. we just went to look for the hell of it to see what they would say.

he found one somewhere else, single turbo 95 for 25k.

I drive by that place all the time, I don't trust those guys at all.

That shit sounds pretty whacked out. I would say two things, never be in a rush to get the car you want. You most likely always get the short end of the stick that way. Two, if you even think the place is shady don't do business with them. Now judging by what you said about most of the cars there I would not even have entertained buying a car from him.
I would say consider reporting him to the better business bureau or even the cops.

I agree, but can not prove it was the same place trying to steal his car.

I asked him to wait and look, just like do. I never jump on the first car I see unless I know the car or comes from someone that knows the person.
Otherwise I do homework...

I know for a fact Expo was shady I didn't know they sunk low enough to jack cars. When I was helping out one of my homies a Navy recruiter ( when I was in ) he recruited the son of the Expo shop. I been there and seen the operations while I was there for a about an hour or so. They get these salvaged ass cars for dirt cheap. sand bondo and paint everything in that lil garage in the back and put it right in the front lot to sell. They are already sinking low enough to sell lemons but I don't feel they would steal a leamon back. If anything someone on the inside gets your info and gets your car the sooner the better so you don't have enough time to install an alarm or put on a club lock.

As for the united motors shop I google mapped it and before they were there I would spend weekends at that shop. I didnt know what the shop was called so I don't know if we are talking about the same joined but GPS is pretty accurate now a days. About 6 months to a year ago before it was what it is now my dads homie ran that shop it was shared with another group of mechanics and till today since it was moved we had good relations and we use their lifts at their new shop near by (which I used a couple days ago). But the lease was up and the owner wanted them out so they got kicked out. My dads friend went to this tiny place on firestone and the other shop moved down the street. While my dad was driving by he called me and said that place had 7 Koukis like mine. So we stopped by and talk to them for a bit. A mexican guy sells the car but I thought the owner was chinese thats where I'm a lil confused.

In any case I would avoid both places. Car dealerships (successful ones) understand that reputation has alot of value. And if there names are a negative ones in the community its best to go else were, there are plenty of places to find a S chassis.

ya, super shady... our shop is in the lot next door to the united guys... We work late on our own cars in our shop.... random dudes coming at all hours and parking in our parking lot.... and ya, all totalled cars... i see the tow truck bring in thrashed, crashed s13's and 14's all day!! And the funny thing is, I dont understand how they stay in buisness without selling cars??? the same ones have been there for at least 3 months!!! so that is what makes me feel fishy....how do they support there shop?? and another thing... we have never had a car stolen from our shop... and my family has been at this location for 21 years, however 3 weeks ago we had a 90 300zx stolen from the parking lot here... kinda funny... but i found it parked around the corner from my shop....... the downey pd has been investigating some things too... we work on a few detectives personal cars... but i dunno.. sketchy for SURE!

can't you file a police report regarding the incident? and then also mentioning the place you bought it from and the information they told you (how easy it is to steal a 240). im sure your on to something big that may help the 240sx community in southern california.

pretty much whenever you buy a car you have to watch out, dmv bill of sale includes your address and both parties have a copy.

pretty much anywhere that works o your car too (stereo shops, shop shops, etc) can always peak at your registration and get your addres... safest thing to do is buy a car, then move, then work on your car yourself and dont post pics of it every week to let thieves know of its progress! or you can be like me and have retrograde progress :D junkier than when you bought it

Its usually stolen with in the next day. I would put a club or pedal lock on it. My dad mention that sellers could make a copy of your key. They have your address and before you install any anti theft take it with the copy.

be aware of any shop that specializes in selling "import" cars, esp since these cars are over 15 years old etc... and HOW THESE ARE TREND CARS.. If the next trend car became teh Z, then shops would start selling Zs etc.

But I think these shops should straight tell you a little about the cars, that they where from auctions or have salvage titles.

If they dont drive the same cars they sell, then the fuck i wanna buy from them? lol
