do you guys know the ballpark range for turbo installation? how does that work? do you just go to the auto shop and hand over your turbo parts? how long is the installation process? :newbie:

well, i dont want fast food or a 7 course meal, but i do want something in between though. i just want a daily driver, maybe around 300 rwhp (garrett t3/t04 57 trim .63 a/r. godspeed fmic, 3" downpipe, turbo elbow, nismo 740cc, z32 maf, walbro 255, e-mance tune, tial 38mm, hks ssqv bov). i just want moderate boost, maybe around 12-15 psi. thanks.

You need to be more specific. There are cheaper ways to make 300HP, and there are more expensive ways. For instance, in your clusterfuck list of parts you just threw out there, you listed a T3/T4 and a Tial 38MM wastegate. For either of those you're going to need a new manifold, which equals more money, especially if you go with something other than a $150 Ebay special.

You could stick with stock manifold, or at least one with the same flange/mount design as stock; there are plenty of T2- turbos that mount in the stock location and can easily make 300+ HP.

Do some more research and figure out which route you want to take to get ~300HP, and then try to figure out the install cost. You don't have enough detail right now to figure that out.

He has a good point slow your roll, first of all get everything figured out your gunna need because there is a lot of little things besides what has already been covered that add up. I cant stress enough how much you need to research before you buy it I mean everything. You can have some of the biggest baddest stuff out on the market right now but without everything matching up your gunna be dissapointed. Try to keep in mind there are usually 3 variable fast,reliable,cheap you can only have 2.

try to keep everything "bolt in" or close ot that so you can do it yourself instead of paying out the ass to have some shop do it. if you opt for a GT28XX turbo, it's relatively bolt in. like shift grind said, there are cheap and expensive ways to achieve the same results. get everything in yourself, and have a shop profesionally tune it.

For the list of parts you posted. I would say you are going to be getting charges for at probably 15+ hours of labor, plus the cost of parts and other items(gaskets, fluids)

Find a group of buddys that can help you. Depending on there skills, and your own, you shouldn't have a problem getting the car all torn apart and put together in 2 weekends.

As always, I am going to suggest you get some gauges in there also, even before your turbo upgrade. unless you already have them. Widebands are a must on pre-tuned ecu, just for saftey.

i have 96 ka24de. my friends will help me install it, but im just wondering the cost for installation. im pretty sure there are people who had a body shop installed their turbo kit. if the installation fee is cheap or not too bad enough, i might resort to that instead. they have lives too. thanks you guys for answering. i expected more flaming going on :-).

From one newb to another, your best resourse for info on turboing the ka is going to be www.ka-t.org (http://www.ka-t.org), or you could juss put in the search button, turboing KA, or go to the turbo KA sticky here. No offense but open ended questions likes this will eventually lead you to being flamed.

If you can afford it, take it to the pros. If something goes fucking wrong, you can always go back to them and bitch about it. You cant really do that to "friends" who did you a "favor" by installing and blew your engine cuz they forgot to hook up the wastegate. :doh:

Personally I think the hardest part is tapping the oil pan for the oil return. If you can do that or get it done then just install it yourself with your friends. My $0.02

You can run the setup w/o exhaust to an exhaust shop and spent the dollars on new pipes.

Honestly, if you can't work on a car yourself, you are getting in WAY over your head piecing together a custom turbo setup. Little things will crop up here and there, and you'll probably need to mess with things here and there to get it "perfect."

The 15 hr quote someone else mentioned sounds about right if you bring them EVERYTHING they need and everything fits together perfectly(that's rare). 15 hrs * $65/hr(assuming you find a "cheap" shop) = $975. You develop problems down the road they are NOT going to work on it for free.


If you think a high mileage KA is guaranteed to last forever at 15 psi you are also deluding yourself.
