Ok I am not using this to brag or for any other reason than the one I write, I just never am able to make a solid decision very fast.
Ok I have a 1991 240sx fastback and it is about a month out on it's completion. I also have a 2008 Civic SI and am not sure if I should keep both cars or just get rid of the civic/payments and DD the 240. The only problem is my 240 is only a step below a race car. Here is a list of some mods...
-M-Sport wide body and s15 conversion(with rear bumper and yada yada)
-fully built SR20 Blacktop w/gt35r turbo
-greddy oil cooler and intercooler
-greddy radiator
-Tein super drifts
-D-Jetro
-all the Tein suspension parts you can think of
-Full 8pt Cage
-Seats (????? havent bought them yet) w/takata harness
-Everything else has been done, it has a walbro FP, and you know, stuff that I dont need to list but is required to do the changes listed. Just assume it's been done because chances are it has.
Anyway my 240 has all of that and It's not finished yet (mainly just finishing some fab work). I also make payments on the SI, I don't know if my 240 will be a good daily driver or not, but I also don't want to drive the SI if I am going to sell it.
To those of you who have cars with serious suspension mods and power mods, would you recommend having a DD? Or would you just rock the 240?
You could just sell the SI and get an older Honda thats in good condition to DD.

i dont suggest having a modded car without a reliable daily driver if you can afford it.
i know i would not get rid of my truck and daily my car. unless i had another similarly set up for the track

Ok that helps, why is that, just wondering?
HOW MANY PPL SAY F(&&*^% DD, and ROCK what I dumped $$$$$$$$ into?
v.s
DUMP money into payments on SI but have a DD that saves a bit of gas? and is probly more comfortable.

hmm interesting so far everyone says havin a DD is the way to go, there must be some underlying reason.

Well from what I have heard, not speaking from experience of course.
A DD is just way more convenient. I mean your 240 probably rides rough, No a/c, loud and other things.
Having a DD means that you would be able to hear your music, seats are comfy, they're no reliability issues, cool air on a hot day. Also if you ever have to do any mods or repairs you will always have a way to get around.
I would sell the civic si, and get something that is a little less expensive. Some mods to the DD wouldn't hurt, but I wouldn't want to get too it to it.

1. If you've got a baller 240 with tons of cash into it...I would want to avoid having it parked outside all day (assuming it sits while ur at work). Less chance of: theft, door dings, fading paint, etc.
2. Gas mileage of a built turbo engine usually blows
3. Uncomfortable to ride on coils and a racing seat
4. Keep the miles down on your built engine
5. you can afford to do work on the 240 that requires a little down time
psh, i could think of more but I would just get a cheap POS that gets good mileage. That way you can save your baby for weekend fun.
you should not daily drive a car with a cage in it

The answer to this question is too simple...
Sell the 08 SI, buy another 240sx as a daily. Done and done.

03-31-2008, 11:28 PM
I did DD my S14 for about 4 yrs. It gets to be a pain in the arse...expensive to DD, swapping tires for track/auto-x and then the drive home, un-reliable after track/auto-x/drift (problems that might occur), and projects you want to do that take more than a weekend. There are always sheit that happens when your working on your car that you need to go to the parts store to buy parts or tools.
Like the others have said, I would sell the SI and get something cheaper with no payments. I bought a Toyota Tacomo to DD, so this way I would eventually be able to tow my car to/from events.

yeah always keep a second car just incase shit goes south with your built ride, not a good feeling. 1995 civic DX hatchback gets about 40MPG on a fairly good motor, and not a bad car for comfort. I would definately suggest a second car.

Id sell the 08 si, and buy a small compact truck of some kind that gets good gas milage, and drive it like a car, and haul crap around (a truck will last forever if you take care of it). A true car guy always has crap that requires a truck to haul around from time to time... :)

dude you have an 8 point rollcage.
if you daily drive it, any cop will pull you over just for seeing that thing lol
pretty ballin' tho if you pull it off. i'd rock the 240 only because i don't really like fwd (although they can be quick).

04-01-2008, 12:25 AM
Or get a slightly larger truck so you can take your 240 up to the track and not deal with police on the way to the event. I mean I have Tein SS's on my car and the ride sucks royal ass. By driving a car you've dumped thousands into, you probably are going to have a poor return on your money when you're only get 10mpg on the freeway and can only use 91 or 100 octane, have to use full synthetic oil every oil change, your brake pads for your 8 piston brakes cost an arm and a leg, your suspension will need to be rebuilt way more often at $120 / corner.
The list goes on and on, not to mention the whole safety aspect of driving a fully stripped car on the streets. Currently I'm looking to redo the suspension on my car to make it more into a daily drivable high power car, but that's not cheap either.

all of you must be some kind of geniuses, I was not even thinking about getting another 240 for DD. Or even an old civic hatch......hmm, and downshift_sideways haha I knew it. All of you have been so much help. Thank You. I am def. going to sell the SI. You guys got the right idea, plus with the 240 I didnt even think about theft issues or insurance or even the fact that I will be in drift events, inc. the drift event coming in 30 days at evergreen raceway in Seattle. I'll still be checking back to see if anyone else has some great advice!!

I have 3 cars. Your best option would be stop making payments on the new car and find a older civic and dd it. Use that money from the payments on your 240 and call it a day. No need to put wear and tear on a car your taking to the track or making it for track use. Its good to have a variety of cars and not worry about payments for anything then you can spend it on whatever wether it be strippers, clothes, hoes, whatever...

well i've got a 95 sr swapped 240sx. big exhaust, coil over suspension, big sway bars, pillow ball adjustable controle arms, stage 4 clutch. greddy front mount and front lip. blah blah blah.... i do have lightly modded 06 sentra specV as a DD but i find myself driving the 240 more. so i don't really need a DD but i have a baby so i need a 4 door. when i'm alone i enjoy it just cause i like it more. i've been trying to get rid of the sentra and get something cheaper to support my 240 modding habit. lol. so i suggest doing what i've been trying to do fo a year now. sell the new one to support the old one and get a "beater" as a DD. good luck

Keep the SI and DD it or get an older cheaper car to DD...
you definately appreciate having a fast car more when you dont drive it everywhere and its always nice to be able to have it down for maintenence or mods and still be able to get from point A to point B
ditch the civic si, waste of money for the payments
with the money you've gained selling the civic si, buy a truck that can tow your track car :D
keep the 240 a dedicated track car
I dd my S14, my only complaint is speed bumps so annoying having to slow down and inch over one at an angle, while cunts honk behind you...
S chassis, track car
GET A HONDA DD
you want mileage? look up the d15z1.

im waiting for pictures still.
but i DD a 99 corolla. it needs some work, but for $3k, its dead nuts reliable. cold AC, 30mpg, etc. not to mention, i really cant say how great it is to own a 4 door car. i didnt like the thought of it at first, but now i couldnt have a DD without 4 doors. infact, when my rolla dies. im planning on getting a legacy GT wagon, or even just an outback if i cant find a GT. despite being FWD, the corolla sucks ass in the snow still. i also cant fit alot of stuff in it, as the rear seats dont fold down. i figure, i can spend 7/8K on a 02/03 outback. get a 5spd manual, all wheel drive. being a wagon, theres tons of room to go camping and shit. decent mileage. ill even find one with heated seats and mirrors. in my head, it sounds like the perfect DD for me. i'd surely die trying to drive my S14 in the winter.
this is getting me excited already. ill get the wagon, prob an outback cause theyre much easier to find. yellow fogs + 2 extra fogs on the front. mudflaps, wheels and coilovers. shit would be my snow warrior.

if you can't afford paying for the civic si get rid of it. get a beater or like other's said get a older model civic, you don't need a si, because all you want is a DD right? like me, my 240sx is just garaged i'm piecing up more parts for it to be track ready; while i drive a toyota echo. i don't give a shit about having a fun DD car to drive, the echo takes me from point A to point B, plus i'm off the CHP/police radar.

haha like i said before none of you people who talk like this to me online matter, all i really do is read the advice that people give and act upon it. I really will never understand people like smelly240, but in this case the name suits him. I really worked hard and saved for years to get the money just to build this car, I will eventually take pictures and post them but I want to finish molding on the widebody (previously rivited) and repaint the car. I worked hard to get this far with it and no internet fanboy will ever fuck with that. So keep talking shit. I'll be around, but no matter how much shit you talk, even in response to this post, no witty comment will get you closer to having what I have worked so hard to achieve.
BTW for anyone that cares I sold the civic, I am going to just DD my 240, I dont live in california anymore so theft isnt too much of an issue. Mainly this is because I am kinda out of money now ;-). Soon i'll probably just get another 240 and leave it stock, but thats once I save up money lol. Kinda hard when i'm trying to go to school and work, and play haha
Oh and I believe the next post should read pics or bullshit? am I right??? haha well you will all get your pics that you demand so much...all you have to do is be patient, can you wait a month? can you? can you? probably not but you will just have to.
