I just got an s14 sr20det swapped into my 240sx, and i have noticed that as long as the engine is running, my belt-driven radiator fan is spinning. I thought they're supposed to only kick on at a certain temperature. However i don't really know about how those fans work, neither the electronic or mechanical aspects. If one of you guys knows what the problem may be and/or how to correct it i'd appreciate any info. Thanks.

it will always spin

sometimes the clutch will give it more torque, or less, depending on temperature.

if you can't spin it indepent of the belt when the car is off and not hot, you need a new clutch.

DO NOT BE AN IDIOT AND TRY TO STOP IT WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING AND COLD I'VE SEEN WHAT FANS DO TO FINGERS IT'S NOT PRETTY

Cool, thanks. So you're sure it's not a good idea to try and see if i can hold it in place when the engine is on? :coolugh:

I just went and checked it, engine is cold. I can easily move it by hand, but if i try to give it a push so it will spin it only goes about a quarter-turn before sticking in place. Does this sound like how it should be?

for real, i was taught to read an write in jersey.

if it wasn't for my natural talent for being a smart motherfucker, i'd probably be retarded like my sister.

as long as your engine is running the fan will be running. Look at it and you will see what we are saying. I could flame away, but I'll be nice.

Yeah, i understand that now. Guess i should revise the title of my question huh... so should it spin freely when it's off, or be a little bit "sticky"?

it should spin like the inside is full of silicone fluid, not like a ball bearing or anything.

if it sounds like a supercharger or a truck, its on its way out

broken is a progression from fairly tough to spin to fully seized with the belt squealing anytime you drive above 3000 rpms
