Just wondering if intercooler size affects turbo lag? I would think it would, maybe not that much.

Intercooler, and piping diameter affects Turbo lag in a very big way...

Too large of an intercooler will restrict flow and affects lag. What's your set up and what intercooler you plan on using?

WTF?

It affects lag. What is lag?

Lag is the delay between pushing on the accelerator pedal and having the turbocharger create boost inside the intake tract. If you increase the volume of the intake tract it will take longer to fill/pressurize that volume and create a set amount of boost.

Yea, you see all these sr's on t25's pushing 7lbs of boost with huge ass fmic's, and its retarted.
Less piping + smaller IC = boost faster
Smaller IC = less cooling efficiency.
You have to find a happy medium for your setup.
20 lbs of boost, a big ass fmic is necessary.
Less, doesnt really need it that big.
You dont want your air too hot, but you also dont want to over do it.

What is your point?

Too large of an intercooler will cause less throttle response from the increased area the air needs to travel.

Turbo lag itself does not increase, but intake lag increases. It takes more time for the turbo to pressurize the longer air intake tubes and the bigger intercooler.

I stand by what I said, so please tell me what you don't understand and maybe I can point you in the right direction.

how do you figure it would restrict flow?

I'm sorry, "restrict air flow" is not what I meant. Bottom line is, too large of an intercooler is not a good thing.

Turbo lag itself does not increase, but intake lag increases.

There's a difference?

But yeah, the bigger the intercooler, the longer it'll take for you to reach positive manifold pressure (i.e. boost).

It also depends on what size turbo and engine you are running. A KA-T with a T25 spools up so quick you'll get very little lag even with a large intercooler.

I have the gt3076 bottom mount turbo, and planning to go with a icevex i.c. 24x12x3. I want to mount it upside down where the condenser would be and just cut some holes beside the radiator for the piping.
