Almost a year after it was originally revealed (http://www.minivans.autoblog.com/2007/07/04/factory-tuned-nismo-fairlady-z-type-380rs/), Nissan has finally put a price tag on the 2008 Fairlady Z 380RS-Competition. But let's not trifle with the cost of ownership yet. As its name implies, the 380RS is a tried-and-true racecar, with a stroked version of the VQ35HR V6. The 3.8-liter mill is producing 350 hp and 321 lb.-ft. of torque, which it sends to a Nismo Super Coppermix clutch and on through to a close-ratio, six-speed gearbox and mechanical LSD. The body meets Super Taikyu regulations, in which it was designed to compete, and comes equipped with new aerodynamic enhancements, a roll cage, six-pot Brembos and the required catalytic converter. Inside, it's all business, with carbon fiber door panels, a Recaro throne, six-point harness and a fire extinguisher. With that out of the way, the price is a cool 28,350,000 yen, or just over $285k USD. Well-funded, privateer teams need only apply.

what is the red hook sticking out of the hood for?

bigOdom1
03-31-2008, 10:41 PM
tow hook.

but if you can get one of these you can have a fleet of GTR cars, maybe it isn't allowed to compete in the classes this can. but you could have one GTR in each color

reminds me of r/c cars, like when Tamiya releases a pro version of one of their r/c cars with all the hop up options for like 3 times teh cost.

its cool, id rather build a porsche gt3 though =p

you could prolyy build the car for much less. sweet car nontheless

04-01-2008, 10:10 AM
hahahahahahahaha. WTF?!

That price better include access to an entire nissan race team.

Any idiot could build a 350 that is twice as fast for half as much. You do the math.

Moncef
04-01-2008, 11:04 AM
The body meets Super Taikyu regulations, in which it was designed to compete...

How much would it cost to meet those regs?

ITB350Z would sound incredible though.

you do realize in Grand-AM the RX8 that competes against the GT3 is a 3-rotor 500hp, CF body, that costs 280K. Last time i check 3 of them were running last year. Race cars are expensive, if you don't hang around race cars, all that money goes into having more adjustment, and having a completely sorted out chassis, from aero, suspension, pick up points, a class legal cage, fuel cell, electronics, etc... For real racing you gotta pay to play.

BTW I doubt it could compete in Speed GT, all those cars are mainly tube chassis except for the porsche (because it is that good). Igor was making 475whp when he ran in speed GT 2 years ago. he learned essentially everyone is 500+ minimum.

In speed TC you know how many restrictions those cars are placed under. where can you see a 330ci running equal with a e46 M3, even with an audi A4, and equal with a TSX.

The 380RS is probably good for Grand-Am GS class.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage N24 $152,350
Porsche 911 GT3 RS $ 124,900.00

But its probably more comparable to one of Porsche's Cup Cars...they don't list the price on those

Dude, race car or not look at that 350, there is nothing on it that constitutes that high of a price.

Its a bare bones 350z with a stripped interior, a stroked motor ran by stand alone, brakes, nismo aero kit, ONE recaro spg and wheels. Even IF it had an all carbon fiber body that still wouldnt put this car anywhere NEAR $285k.

A base model Z only goes for around 20k (and thats being generous). You mean to tell me that what i listed adds up to $265K in mods. Ummmm yeah, i think not.

With that kinda money, i could build a 350z that i would shit all over this car.

I'm not hating on it, i'm just being real. Its totally over priced.

bamaboy
04-04-2008, 09:11 PM
a base model Z starts at over $26k, that's not your everyday billybob built dirt track role cage, it didn't state the make up of the suspension, what the actual specs on the engine were, or what all was different. I'm sure that is a totally redesigned beefed up version of a stroked VQ much the same way the JGTC GTR is now. Yes, the new race GTR makes the exact same horse power, but Nissan engineers totally redesigned the car to be able to use this horsepower for extended periods of time in race conditions.

revat619
04-04-2008, 09:58 PM
ok so start at $26k and build it up. Its still not anywhere close to $285K

The cage? What about it is so amazing? Its got some gussets some cross bars and door bars. Unless that shit is made of magnesium, it cant be more than a few grand.

I understand what goes into a race car and all that, but seriously guys, there's no way this car is worth that much money.

04-05-2008, 10:24 AM
like I said, for a team of engineers to totally redesign something, change the base materials used to make the engine, transmission, rear ends, chassis, etc, so that it is reliable in a race condition I would think a quarter million would be justified. Any one of us could build a faster car using a parts catalogue and some torque qrenches, but would we be able to go several hundred miles at a time and only need fuel and tires...probably not.

no sir, have you checked your nissanusa.com recently? theyre getting wethinkwerehighendcars syndrome. a base Z is gona run u 30k+ otd... thats for a z with no diff...id rather buy a used e46 m3.

i'll agree to disagree with you.

race motors arnt built to last forever either...they actually come with what you could call a expiration date?...basically they're built to be ran for a certain amount of hours and thats it. remember its just metal, no matter what you do to it if yove got metal on metal at 10,000rpms for 10 hours its going to wear and warp.

you could build something to COMPETE with this car, but in terms of you duplicating that car in your garage..never.
If anyone payed attention to the Canadian touring car (or is on ziptied) Sasha Anis tore his class a new anus(lol) with his prepd S14 running a 2871r AEM and some good aero. The cars in his class were probably built to a very similar standard to that Z.

for that much money your outta of your mind, I could build a car from the ground up with better power to weight ratio for cheaper then that, thats for people with way to much money that wont even race the damned thing. Its still nice tho just outta your mind on the price 285thousand dollars...): I would rather buy 2 audi r8's one black on red lol

No one here that's complaining about the price has built a race car before. 250k isn't cheap but it is when it comes to a factory race car. A porsche Cup car is 320k. that comes with some minor spares packages and I assume this car will come with some spares as well. you're not paying for a "stripped" 350z with a stroked street car engine. Your paying for a built, completed and tuned race car that has had all the bugs worked out of it. Requires zero development. And has factory support and development. See like next year they'll have what they call a update package. That will included revised aero, new suspension etc that will make the car faster than before. You couldn't develop a car to that potential for 250k in a short time frame with paid crew, extensive datalogging, track time, etc.

See people buy that expensive porsche because if they attend a grand american road race event. There's a porsche trailer there handing out a suggested setup. Suggested tire pressure and shock settings. then if they have an off track excursion and break a suspension arm that they don't have a spare of. They can goto the porsche trailer and buy it. Keep racing that weekend instead of packing it in. Your not only buying a car but your buying support.

A porsche Cup car is 320k.

Where'd you find that number? I couldn't find any listed price for the Porsche cup cars on any site.

Anyways, for more comparison a Ferrari F430 Challenge (also a race ready car) is $227,000.

friend used to do work with alex job when they ran 911's. Said by the time you got the datalogging kit.. and spare bodywork/wings that would be required.. spare parts.. spindles, arms, lights etc.. the price tipped the scales at 320k for a ready to run the season car, spares and all.. update packages were in the neighborhood of 20k and up.. I would imagine a CF porsche made nose for a 911 isn't cheap. I'm sure you could get the car down to under 250k if you just bought the car.. that isn't going to get you far in a season though. Porsche so far though have the best game though. You can hand them 300k and get a car that will qualify well and race the whole 24 hours of daytona with little to do but a yawn. Out of the box. few manufacturers can say that. Sure things break but out of the box they are rock solid reliable.

Never underestimate the power and worth of that factory trailer.

Exactly my point. You're getting a car WITH spare parts and all and its a 320K. AND its a fucking Porsche.

They're asking $285K (not including mark ups and what not) for a just the car that really isnt THAT impressive to begin with. Thats only 35k away from the Porsche. In the grand scheme of things thats really not that much money. Like i said in my first post, if you've got money like this, you're not gonna buy the 350z.

Hell, if the Ferrari is $227K, you're for damn sure not buying a $285K dollar NISSAN 350z. Fuck THAT.

scca gt crs dont even cost that much, wc touring cars go for roughly 75k with spares thats what some older bmw 330 went for and hp was 310, unrestricted...

id rather get a used porsche gt2 or gt3... from flying lizard or trg

We have the 2006 M3 GTR, 2007 GTO-R(triple crown champ) and the 2008 GT3 Cup car at my work and they were all well over $250k used. They come with spares and shit but its just extra body work, wheels and a few other things. That 350z is well developed but if you think that you can roll that shit out of the trailer and win/place a 24 hour races with it, without any development time your fooling yourself.
