What temp should the sr run at and what is the best temp to have my fans kick on?

normal temp is like 180, if ya run it hard.. i.e. drifting temps can get up to 210-220

i personally have my fans on 24/7

thermostat opens at 180º-190º, fans usually only kick on during hard driving, or sitting in traffic. As far as the stock temp gauge on the cluster..my sr never gets to the middle line. (koyo and electric fan.)

i think you should have them on the all time the car is on

normal operating temp is 176 if you keep your fans on constantly that will slow up initial warm up and puts a strain on your charging system

mine kicks on at 180 according my to autometer

it has never slowed up my initial warm up.. my car gets to operation temps just as normal if my fans werent on.. guess that all depends on the fans you are running

Why? With the car moving at 15mph+, you are already moving a lot more than the fans.

true but its how and where you put that airflow to. Which is the problem with most 240 owners cars overheating.

ducting is key here people.

even a stock radiator shouldnt over heat with proper ducting

I have a koyo radiator with my altima fans running on low constantly. Warms up just fine, and on my temp gauge its usually constant a little bit below the halfway mark.

Actually, if you look in the FSM, the cooling fan doesn't operate until 203 F. Doesn't switch to HIGH until 212 F.

i keep my coolant temps between 190-200. Zero problems.

I use a Pivot fan controller. The first fan turns on at 185F. The second (larger) fan turns on at 195. Ive daily driven this setup for 2 years.

if youre running a thermostat and its good, running the fans on constantly will have nothing to do with initial warm up because coolant kind of sits in the motor seperately from the radiator, closed off by the thermostat. once it reaches a certain temp, then the thermostat opens and allows coolant to flow through the radiator, thus being cooled by the fans.
and also, granted, the fans take a lot of amperage, but if your alternator is good and doing its job, there shouldnt be a problem.

but in running the fans on it, you're putting that much more strain on it. granted it wont kill the alt. in a super short amount of time, but after time, it will make a difference.

sr's run hot yes, but that doesn't mean you should need your fans on all the time. An engine can run too cool, which can cause damage. So you don't want it running as cold as possible, all the time.

Leave the fans for sitting in traffic and hard driving. If you still experience problems with it over heating, its not the fans/fan.

:loco:

you dont put any strain on the engine, i think you LIE unless you can prove me wrong because it takes my car about.. 10mins to get to normal temp WITH my fans on! Which im sure is normal for any car, considering my girls car is Hyundai nothing done to it and takes 10-15 to warm up.

okay okay.

the point is here..

your car is cold, no need for fans. will it make a difference if you run them? NO

strain on your car? its gonna be just like anything else. headlights interior lights.

when you start your car is doesnt have 0 voltage.

I too am of the school of thought that the fans should only run when they need to. There is no needs to place the wear and tear on the fans, load on the electrical system and overcool the car while it is warming up. I have my altima fans cycled with a Greddy MSS. The first fan comes on at 85C and off at 80C. The second fan is on at 88C and off at 80C. This works great and I have never had an instance where the car was unable to control coolant temps even with the AC on in the middle of the Texas summer.
