Harness connected to ecu, hard wire the starter, hook up fuel lines some kind of can with a pump attached.

i know all that part but where do i hook up the fuel pump to get it up and running?

fuel pump only needs 12v and ground (i'd also recommend putting an inline fuse in there). make sure you have a fire extinguisher handy anytime ur trying this, just to cya. then just run a fuel and return line to the fuel rail, and make sure that ur engine isnt going to tip over or anything. (fellow zilvians, am i forgetting anything?)

The flywheel/clutch has to spin freely and will, so if it starts don't rest the motor on those parts and don't stick your fucking fingers near it either.

I'm sure these guys are most likely running the fuel from an external fuel cell to the motor

brndck - how do i hook up the fuel to the battery? i mean i cant just directly hook it up right? i have a a dolly or i can mount the motor on the custom motor cradle that came with the engine

jtuned - flywheel and clutch is not on the motor.

You need a starter and the starter turns the flywheel. THere are other way to start it, but if you don't know or have the proper equipment or facility to do so, I wouldnt recommend it.

trsilvia - what are these "proper equipment" u meant?

I noticed in the vid they didnt hook up some sort of coolant jig, is that bad to run the motor like that with no
water system flowing through the motor?

if its not ran for too long it doesnt matter because when your engine warms up your thermo doesnt even allow coolant to flow thru until its reaches a certain temp then it opens up and allows the flow of coolant.

they only ran it for good 1 min. so i think it should be fine running for that amount of time.

proper equipment? Say fire extinguisher, a jig that would hold a motor while getting started, proper fuel pump, proper battery with some kind of cut off.

Do you just want to start it? or run it? Look up an engine dyno. A engine dyno equipment would be best, but since you are "broke" just swap it in your car and start it there. What is the rush?

If you want to do it like the video, prepare to take a risk ..

If it was me and I wanted to do something that ghetto, have an extra front subframe so it sitting probably balance, a fuel pump (fish store comes to mind), 1 gallon gas tank, and a car battery. - pretty much mimic a front clip minus.

ya i think starting it up outside the car is cool to see. I have always wanted to do that. I would hook it up to the subframe as well. Dont want that bitch tippin over and the flywheel hittin concrete and spittin chunks of concrete/metal at ya. That shit would hurt like hell! Plus it would fuck shit on your motor up. Motor running outside of car sideways=ultrafail

yea but i wouldbe really careful runing with no coolant at all...with no water in the head and block...it will heat up super fast..considering there isnt anything but air absorbing the heat...anything more than a min is to much to risk...but hey its youre engine do what u want

I don't see why you couldn't bolt up a gearbox to give the motor something to lean against to prevent tipping over.

As far as wiring goes, it's just like chassis wiring. If you pull out your entire engine and chassis harness, you can hotwire the starter switch with a pushbutton.

thank you for the replies.

only reason i want to try this is because i wanted to make sure i wont have any prob when i swap it out. pulling the engine back and forth to check a prob. itll save me a hassle starting the motor out of the car.

This can also make custom wiring harnesses much easier to make/fix. IE: megasquirt, etc.
