some people paint there front mounts black so that you cant see them.
but wouldnt that make the intercooler hotter. being that black absorbes heat.

but people tint there windows black so that the heat doesnt get in.

can anyone explain for me??

im no expert but if you were to paint the intercooler wouldnt it clog the holes not allowing as much air through the intercooler to cool down the air u want cooled... and as for tinting windows the tint actually reflects the heat and doesnt allow it to come through...if you were to look in a car with tint the light that does come in isnt as bright because it isnt letting as much light in as if there were no tint.... hope that helped

i dont think painting the intercooler black isnt really gonnan do much, as soon as you start moving air is going to go over the fins and do its job... you could look into having it anodized as well, the finish would hold up much better and it would ease any paranoia you have about painting it...

edit: if you do decide to paint it, you should only use a light mist in a criss cross pattern too much paint will clog it up

ok i was just wondering because my friends is black on his sti and he didnt know if it would absorb or reflect being that it was black but window tint reflects.

just kind of something to get you realy thinking.

I read that you can paint intercoolers with paint meant for radiators and it'll be fine. Can't remember where I saw that though.

Black absorbs heat faster than any color, but it also releases heat faster.

Just as long as you use radiator paint...

use flat paint. gloss lays really thick an will reduce the intercoolers effective cooling flat colors release heat the best too once the air is flowing through the intercooler.

I plan on getting my fmic put it all on, and running, dyno the car to see power, and then annodize it to see if there is any hp or tq gain from it. I seriously doubt with annodization to the fins it will restrict flow.
Why are you trying to keep it hidden? Racin people for $ eh? Hiding it works well with v setups, and rear mount setups, I just think a BLACK FMIC looks cool.

If your trying to stay sleeperish stay away from loud BOV. Infact, probably recirc. it. I am doing that, and plumbin the W.G. into the exhaust. That way the car is alot quieter. :)

i had a friend paint a huge front mount on his evo, he said it never really affected anything.

i say go for it!

i'd much rather anodize though

in a dark room - it wont matter :P

black absorbs and heat from LIGHT ENERGY more than other colors. so yeah- its not gonna do anything either way spraying it with rad paint. I've had black intercoolers and normal ones - they worked the same.

for the record - "sleeper" was cool in 1998. just get a big scary front mount that smiles at everyone :)

also - window tint doesnt reflect... thats why dark tint + black leather + black car = MUST HAVE A/C

No. For the record, "sleeper" is classic. It will never go out of style.

^^ i like the sleeper style, Just perfer the stockish look to the outside, with no rust and a quiet ride..
Some people can tollerate rust on their cars. I cannot! I think peoples ignorance to your ride when ya whamp them is sweet!! i love the drop jaw'd face..

Yep. My car is stockish on the outside. I need to get rid of this gook tube as soon as I can afford an RS*R exhaust, and I have FN01R-C's... and she needs a little drop. Stockish. No bodykit, no wing, no stickers.

I recommend Anodizing as well.

i wont be stockish anymore. I just tonight bought orgin fender overlays. And i already have Koni adjust w/GS springs, STi calipers/evo rotors/linelocker as ebrake, And repainting. I am putting C.F. hood and trunk on too, but painting them as well. I am not sure what wheels i want, currently i have z33's. I am gettin rid of the "gook tube" exhaust too.. thats funny i have never heard that term. People around here have 1 term, FART PIPE.

anodization looks more even than paint, and it holds to weather alot better too. Has a little more gloss to it as well. Do that if you want a black FMIC. Sure its about 100.. but i personally think its worth it.

well i already have a huge i/c. i mean big but im also making +400hp. i just wana try and hide it a little big. you can see it from 1000 yards away.

plus the fact of the dog box winding and 295 welds on the back dont realy help it.
