Alright well I have been collecting parts over the past couple months in order to do a minor build up on my S14 Blacktop SR motor. I started on it last night and got everything dissassembled and ready for the build-up. Anyways the pictures will explain everything. Im only looking to get close to 300rwhp on stock bottom end and bb turbo at 18psi of boost. This is my daily driver so I am going for reliabilty more then anything. Feel free to shoot any comments or questions you have my way. Thanx for looking and let the pix begin hahaha.

This is what the motor looked like when I started dissassembly.

Commence (sp?) dissassembly of the motor.

Top of the block. For some reason I was getting a really lean condition on cylinders 1,3,4 and a really rich condition on cylinder 2. Hopefully my new injectors and tune will cure this.

Top and bottom of the head. You can see on the bottom of the head where the weird conditions were occuring on the valves.

Bags upon bags of nuts and bolts.

And I guess I can divulge what will be replaced:bigthumb:. Pix below consist of:
1.2mm Tomei headgasket, 550 Sard injectors, HKS 256/264 cams, oem headbolts, oem exhaust mani gasket, circuit sports intake mani gasket, oem valve cover gasket, Enthalpy rom tuned ecu.

Yeah I cant wait either. It should be an awesome all around daily driver. Thanx for the compliments guys and I will definately keep you updated as it gets back together and I make it to a dyno. Thanx, Cameron

Looks pretty good, but you should have stored your hydraulic lifters vertically in an oil bath to prevent air from entering the lifters. Since they look like they've been tilted, remember to put them in an oil bath and purging the air before reinstalling them in the head. Good luck with your build up.

Thanx a lot for the reminder. It was getting really late lastnight and I completely didnt think about that till this morning. So yeah I am definately going soak em down and make sure there isnt any air left in them. Good lookin out asianracer. Thanx, Cameron

Good luck with the build. I've gotten 325 whp at 1.1 bar with a stock longblock and just bolt on parts. You should be able to hit 300 with what you have. The part that I really struggled with was spark energy. Too many misfires. I ended up using an HKS Twin Power DLI ignition amp to fix that problem. Once we retuned, it was smooth sailing. Keep us posted!

Hell yeah that makes me happy hearing that. I was thinking about upgrading to the splitfire setup but it is quite a bit of money so I figured I would wait for now.

Today I was looking over my intake manifold and noticed that whoever had the motor before me tried to port the manifold as seen in the pic above. They only messed with #1 and #3. But I think this might be why I am seeing the rich/lean conditions that I am. The #1 is only dremeled out about a quarter of the way but #3 has been ported almost all the way. I was thinking about taping my intake gasket to the mani and porting all for cylinders just so that they match. Does this sound like a bad idea? Let me know. Cameron

Be careful with porting. To do this correctly, you should line up the gasket to the manifold with bolts (to ensure that everything is centered.) Before doing so, you should be using head porting dye (its like blue ink.) Once you apply the dye to the surface, line up the gasket and use bolts to hold it in place. Then using a head porter's scribe, trace the shape of the gasket onto the manifold surface. Remove the gasket and look for the scribed line on the blue dye. Now you can grind the ports to match the gasket. Honestly, I would only do this if you're experienced with porting. The flow dynamics of the manifold can be affected if they don't all match. Good luck with your project.

Yeah I let my dad look at the manifold and he thinks that it is actually something that was done in the factory and not some home port job. So I think I am actually just gonna leave it alone since like you said your messing with the flow dynamics of the head and I dont have the porting experience needed to properly take care of the job so I will leave it as is. Thanx for the look out on how to do it though. Cameron

Well we worked on it some more tonight but didnt really make any big progress. We pretty much just cleaned the entire head and made sure everything was completely level. Fortunately the top of the block is completely level after we cleaned all the gunk off. The head was a different story. There was a .008 gap between #2 and #3 so I am gonna take the head tomorrow and get it smoothed out. I wouldnt worry about it if I were using an oem hg since it kinda sinches down and expands, but since im usin the tomei metal gasket I wanna make sure everything is completely level before I install anything. I will get pix up tomorrow when I wake up. For now I gotta get cleaned up and catch some sleep. Peace out. Cameron

My Dad brought the head to a local machine shop and had it machined flat. I didnt get to work on the car lastnight since I got off work late so there really isnt any good progress shots. I do want to go ahead and try and tidy up the engine bay a little bit while everything is outta the way. So I have posted some pix of the clutter and was wondering if anyone can shoot me some good ideas as to where I should start on this mess cause Im a little overwhelmed. Thanx, Cameron
