my car just randomly stopped spooling to set boost... it feels as if the boost controller is doing nothing... it hits 10 psi fine and holds it there. Its set at 18 psi
so im wondering if my actuator is bad or my WG... id think if my WG was bad id be over boosting, but someone told me thats not always the case..
ive redone all vacuum lines and they all work fine... i have a HKS EVC6 and its hooked up correctly.. i even put a MBC on there and nothing.. BUT with no vacc source it will over boost fine.. so any suggestions would be greatly appreaciated
i think im going to hook up a air compressor to the the vacc source for the WG and see if the rod moves at all...
PS i have a HKS actuator kit..
thanks

Yeah if your waste gate is bad your Boost will spike, or it will stick open(No Boost) but since you unplug it and hit high boost then it sounds fine
as far as testing your W/G That it, make sure it opens, closes and holds
Sounds like the Boost Controller is bad

you should definitely have a vacuum pump if you don't already. they're a great multipurpose tool. one man brake-bleeding, clutch line bleeding, vacuum tester, etc. you can get this vacuum pump and connect your wg actuator to it to see if it operates properly.

you can get one at any auto parts store.

+1
If the wastegate was flawed, it would either be completely open (build little/no boost) or it would not open at all, and you would overboost....sounds like a boost controller issue

hmmm... maybe its a problem with my vacc source to the boost controller..
i have a line coming off the hot pipe and from the backside of the intake mani that runs all the way along the firewall to the evc6 stepper..
i even put a MBC on it and still doesnt see past 10-11 psi
it used to boost FINE.. and then on the dyno i went to bump it up to 18 psi and it only hit 12... then i put it to 20 psi and it only hit 11... and has been stuck there since...which makes me think its the actuating rod stuck

but your vac source is fine cuz it opening the W/G.
Possibly Both bad contollers???
Try another Vac. Source and see if it changes.
if not maybe the spring broke inside the W/G causing it to open eaisier??

I think you need pressure to test WG operation, not vac. I would hook up a vacuum line to the WG directly, and work your way up. Eliminate each thing at a time, and you should be able to find your problem. You can also try a rubber tipped air gun, fill it up with pressure and see if the arm is even moving. The EVC should have a vac signal from the intake mani and hot pipe and a vac line going to the actuator.
