i just bought a tomei short shifter for my 180sx

when i install it for some reason it can be lifted up and down..
vertically... even with the new block installed that holds the dust boot on...
i can fit a snap ring on top of the bush socket.. but that wouldnt allow me to put the shifter in the bush socket...
i dont understand.. its like the shifter just wont go deep enough into the tranny... but its as far as it goes...-----> YET (as i said it goes up and down.. with it up to where i think it should be/to as far as it will go up with the tomei block plate over it.. it still shifts perfectly fine!... leading me to beleive that all i need is a bigger "Collar" or spacer if you will...)

now this is my theory ... please help if you can!

basically here is a link to a picture that i need you to look at and tell me if this makes sense to you

http://www.pdm-racing.com/installs/sshifterhelp/sld009.htm

take a look at the "collar"
see how thick it is..
well the one that i got with this shifter *i should mention i got it used from an importer in a toyota bag lol so chances are their might be a wrong part?*
is quite small.. infact its less than half the size of the collar in that picture...

do you think that.. that is the reason for my shifter going up and down?
or do you know the size of the one that came with your tomei shifter??
please any help will be greatly appreciated! :)

i understand pictures would be key and i probably look like a douche now..
but i lost the digital camera cables in my recent move to a new house

and its not a regular usb which i just happen to have at least 10 lying around

are you sure thats tomei cause it looks like a ebay shifter. look this shifter is useless after awhile. the brackets on the block will fall off if you dont thread lock the brackets. get a b&m or a knock off one "replace plastic bushing with a real oem its like $5-7 at the dealer" easier to install.

i had one like that then got rid of it for the other one cause it the brackets fell off and went missing besides the new one shifts alot shorter than that one.

i dont think its the right collar for that. its seems like its not as thick as the one in the pics you showed me.

one thing is that either you make something to retro fit on that to make it work the way you want too or deal with the shifter going up and down or get a B&M shifter.
