I just installed a koyo rad on a s14,. it was a bitch but I got the radiator and the shroud in. the fu**d up part is the car was in a small collision and tweaked the support for the rad., so when we tested the car on the road u hear the fan hit the shroud as we corner.. Is ok to take off the shoud?

In a hot climate like Texas in the summer, especially with the AC on, there is no way that it will stay cool without the shroud. It really needs to be there. I would try and make it work - it'll be better than it not being there at all.

if I were you I would just replace the radiator support, that seems like the best solution to me, I dont like to take chances with overheating

I assume you completely removed the stock electric fan when you pulled to old radiator? Can you come up with a way for this to remain in the car?

What I would do is re-install the OEM elec. fan, keep the fan shroud and remove the stock engine fan w/clutch. This is how I have my car and I don't overheat at all. Plus I don't have the upgraded Koyo radiator yet so I'm getting even less cooling efficiency than you would so you should be good.

Just figure out a way to mount the fan to the new radiator and you should be good to go.

Or you could just take the fan shroud off and trim about an inch (or however much you need) off the edge that faces the engine, all the way around, to allow for fan clearance. then re-install. That should do it.

Good luck.

EDIT:

Wait, wait. You said you're getting the fan to hit only when you turn? Ah.....that's interesting. How about getting new, stiffer, motor mounts? Problem should be solved. Sorry, I should have mentioned this first, but it just came to me.

Anyone else agree?

it might not overheat during normal driving but if you start to get on it, it will go up quickly. Do you have a temp gauge? remember that the stock temp gauge isnt worth a shit you might be getting hot and the stock gauge doesnt show it till its really hot.
