I've had this weird issue where I turn the key to start and nothing happens or occasionally I hear a weird electrical click?

usually I can get it started but one day after work I couldn't ... I got a jump and the car started right up

so I replaced the battery ( it was under warranty )

thought maybe it was the clutch switch because no attempt at crank and weird noise maybe from the switch being down half-way.. I tested it pushing it in by hand and it seemed to work every time. I decided to adjust the clutch pedal to make sure it was fully pressing it down but it was harder than I thought and I was annoyed.. ended up just cutting the wires and wiring em together - easy way

even after all this I still don't start everytime... every once in awhile I turn the key and nothing happens or i hear a weird noise coming from the dash/cluster area at least what it sounds like in the car ( I will try to get a video of this )

video of in car noise:

yesterday night, I decided to get under the car and check the connections on the starter and they looked good. I than took a video of me starting the car while the camera was recording in the starter area to see if I could hear any clicks coming from it.

after about 5 attempts of good starts I finally got a tad bit of the noise

it's towards the end of the video just barely got it

To verify it's not the relay, bypass it. The S14 relay is called the 'clutch interlock', found outside in the main fusebox. Pull the relay out and jump the two larger leads, should be black/white and black/yellow. With it bypassed you're sending current directly from the switch to the solenoid. If it still gives you problems, pull the column cover and use a voltmeter to test current at the switch. Wire is black/yellow on the harness side, don't recall color on the switch side. If it shows +12V or better all the time, replace the starter solenoid. If it doesn't, the switch is on the way out. Any 95-98 ignition switch will work, all you want is the electrical side, replaced with two screws.

Is the clutch interlock switch in the same place on the S13?

Or is it just on the S14?

It's called a starter relay on S13s, blue 4pin located right beside the battery.

I have this exact same problem on my s13. I have replaced the starter, the battery, checked all the grounds. I am going to go try the bypass thing mentioned above now, but what other causes could there be?

No, it was a manual from the factory

I haven't had problems with it since.. knock on wood
