Here is something that I noticed, browsing my local auto forums: What is up with people, and their pricing now days? I mean don't people realize, that you can get a lot of items, with warranty, shipped for cheaper than what people are asking? What's even crazier, is people asking close to retail, for items, that are several years old. I understand, if it's a rare part, or an item, that's really high in demand. I don't get it.

People are stingy and want to get every penny they can possibly get so they can buy new things to feel better about themselves. Duh.

It is often a necessary markup because retards lowball with reckless lack of respect for the seller... The mentality has become, basically:
Give me an inch, I take a mile.
Give me a mile, I want 10.
Give me a reasonable price and I want a discount.
Give me a discount before I asked for it and I want it free.
Sometimes, in order to combat this, the seller has to set the bar a tad higher in order to be prepared for this shit. This is common retail, and applies to ALL things EVER sold, except for fuel and pussy.

^EXACTLY.
basically set it high, and hopefully you'll get what you really want.

I think there's a difference between setting it a tad higher and trying to buttfuck someone.

It is all on the buyer to not let themselves get buttfucked (unless, of course they're IN to the disgusting homofagual buttsex), but the fact remains that the moment they find it elsewhere for a lower price, they will ask their preferred seller to match that price or, better yet, beat it. Once they have secured that lower price, they will ask for even more; shipping included, whatever free shit might be laying around or maybe even a late-night reacharound when they're feeling a bit lonely. Consumers are a pain in the fucking ass. Most don't seem to understand the difference in buying power, some people can acquire what they sell for less and in such can sell it for less. The littler guy has to sell it for more to not take a beating on it, yet someone's "gimmegimmegimme" teenager comes in and shits on the whole presentation because "xxxxx has it for $xx.xx"

I agree, to a certain point. But being that I have self confidence and knowledge on the parts I sell, I know not to sell it lower than what I want out of it. Why? Because I set things at a price that it'll go quick and people will be extra happy with what they get. A few bucks isn't a big deal to me, but i'm not going to be someone's bitch. I know how to say "No, thanks" and so should everyone. Some people make such a big deal out of buying parts for their cars...it's so fucking annoying, it's like they can't relax.

Thing is, I don't mind when someone has sets their prices high, but willing to work with the buyer. Then, there are those dipshits, that are selling used items (especially electronics) with no warranty, at retail, or close to it.

That picture makes no sense, I don't see the connection to the reference of the term butt sex. It's not like Yoshi is banging Mario in the Hershey's highway.

AMEN!
Atleast somebody gets it. If a majority of the fuckers on this site werent so busy bitching about everything not being $19.99 then we wouldn't have this problem.
The 240sx "scene" is a fucking joke.

It's a free market, let it sort itself out. I've seen people with unrealistic asking prices sit on a part for a solid year before they actually smartened up and lowered the price.
On the other hand, I've been lowballed by people to the point where it's almost insulting.
You deal with both until you meet in the middle ground.

If selling shit for retail is bad, whats worst is the poor schmuck who's actually willing to buy it for that price, those are the idiots you really have to fucking blame since theyre fueling the fire.
Perfect example...the 240sx chassis. Really? You're willing to pay $10k for a 97 Kouki STOCK?!?! I paid $13.5k out the door from a dealer lot for that back in 99!!!
Yeah its funny, like what people are asking for the S14 radio bezel, you can get one NEW from the dealer for waaaaaay less nowadays...

You have a better chance of fucking Jessica Alba than finding an original S14 radio trim thats not cracked already...

Well speedgood^s13 is in Hawaii and I imagine car parts over there are marked up a lot more due to shipping and the fact that not everyone is willing to ship there.

prime example is what phlip said
also you gotta understand that some parts are either
1. discontinued
2. have a waiting period before they arrive
3. or just plain rare
its all about supply and demand...take beginning Economics, they explain it on the first day...then drop out and get ur money back

i'll pay a few bucks extra to get something NOW instead of having to wait a week for it to show up in the mail.
