Hi guys,

I took my car for a test drive yesterday and when I would go WOT the car would cut out and buck. The only time it wouldn't do it is when I would gradually ease into the gas pedal, but once I got to a above 3500-4000 RPM it would continue to buck and cut out. I went to turn the car on and car wouldn't start and my guage lights were dim.

A few days ago I went to start the car and I had the same problem with the car not starting and the lights being dim. I checked my battery terminals and the car has a new battery so I am leaning towards the alternator being bad. Would anything with my charging system cause my car to run like this?

P.S.
Car is 89 KA24E w/ 5spd Stock

UPDATE:

Hey guys,

Finally found out the problem, I took the alternator to get tested yesterday and it came back "Good". So last night I put the alternator back in and today I went to go get new battery cables and a multimeter, installed the battery cables and had the same problem. Car turned over for about 2 seconds and then everything would go dim. Checked the battery with my multimeter and I had 11.87V. I kept the multimeter on the battery well I attempted to start the car and my reading went to 2.3V. Took battery back to kragen since I just got it like a month ago and they replaced it free under the warranty, turned out it was a defective battery.

Installed new battery and problem solved.

Just though I'd share with you guys.

Thanks,

Ivan

Ivan,

Do you see your brake light coming on your dash when the car is dying out?

Test your alternator, grab a multimeter, or bring it to your local parts store.

Ant,

I actually just got the alternator off a few hours ago and decided to call it a night in the garage. I'll go have it tested tomorrow. The KA24DE motor I picked up off of James came w/ an alternator so I was planning on dropping that one in to try it out.

I am pretty sure the brake light was coming on when I was trying to start the car, it was idling really rough too.

I've had the car running and unplugged the MAFS and the car shut off. I was told that if the car continued to run on ran better the MAFS was bad. I think I might just go ahead and replace that too.

I've worked on the S14 on and off for the last 2 months but will be doing alot of work on it in about 3 months or so. I would love to have it done sometime this year, but we'll see.
