Alright so I just bought this car from an insurance company through an auction, just wondering if anyone recognizes this car. It came from texas area. Just looking for some info about it, what type of mods it has, suspension, engine, etc. I know that it has a redtop SR but that's about all I know about it. Just asking because all I've seen is pictures from the auction, haven't went to pick it up yet. Anyways here are a couple pics:

I buy alot of cars from the insurance auctions. The auctions are live internet auctions, you can go and bid in person, or you can bid in real-time online. They post about 6 pics of each car, This car is in Houston TX and I live in Nebraska, which is about 14 hours away. So not very economical to go look first, we try to buy 2-3 cars at a time to make the most out of the trips as we have a trailer that can haul 3 cars at a time.

The two main sites that we use are http://www.copart.com and http://www.iaai-bid.com

They both have locatios all over the United States. They should have links with all the info to become registered with them. For most of it a dealers or salvagers license is required, but that is depending on the state laws.

Copart is crap though, I've known dealers who buy shit from other auctions, go wash the whole carrier at a truck stop, then take the cars to Copart to flip. They have gougers on the lot who actually work there and bid up cars they want to sell for higher prices too. The last 98 5spd SE they had come through was rearended so bad it took out both quarter windows, it went for $3200 thanks to them pushing the bid up. I stopped at $700.

There's a few sites that don't require a license to bid/buy, but they're too flooded with normal people just looking to buy cars for a single part or engine. www.ridesafely.com is one of them.

Yeah, it seems like I can usually get better deals through IAA. And you're right about the auctions that don't require a dealers license. The stuff goes crazy high there like you said because they let so many people in there, and most of them don't have a clue about what they're worth or how much the repair is, I don't even look at those places.

i want a 3 car trailer

It kinda sux, I mean, the trailer is damn nice, but it's a pain in the ass getting into anywhere with it, plus stopping at scales, and all that kinda sux.

Copart sucks major balls. I bought a 05 Tacoma, went to pick it up, came to waaaaay more damage than posted in pics. In pics it had some scratches and some minor things, when i go there, it had fucked up rear quarter panel, busted rear window, busted right side windows. Told them to go fuck themselves, shady fucks. I get my shit from my place now. Just a notice - if you buy anything from Copart - BE VERY CAREFUL. Any auction actually. If you do not go look at the shit you buy - don't cry about it when you get it and it's worthless.

EDIT: I used to flip cars, but not in flake stupid crapy way. I flip bikes now, got this nice place, buy the least salvaged ones. I ride them myself, so no BS here.

I never do anymore. It's like a gamble. I have my own source right now. I heard a lot of fucked up stories about Copart. Unless you DO go and see the car/bike in person, take pictures, and get what you paid for, and you are satisfied - then you're lucky.

Just trying to inform fellow nissan brothers to stay away from Copart.

ahhh copart... i worked for adrenalix, a used motorcycle part company and i would have to go pick bikes up from copart and NPA ect. copart sux, the employees would steal parts that fell off the bike. but NPA is the shit. theres no cars just powersports. got an 06 cbr600rr with 1900 miles and no bodywork for 2900 + auction fees. :fruit:
BTW i would trade you front ends if youre just going to throw it back in the auction. black 93. im in Kansas.

I'm going to be parting this car out, so if you want to maybe buy the front end, we could work something out.

Shit, I've never had a problem with either copart or iaa. I just always remember if I don't go look at it in person first, that there could be more damage than what you see. Sometimes in the pics, it looks like the whole side is smashed in, but alot of the time it's just a reflection. If I can't see the car in person I always plan on atleast $1000 extra to fix whatever cannot be seen. I've had good luck, knock on wood, never had any big surprises.

The small yards can be just as bad though. A lot of the towing yards will have monthly auctions for impounded or recovered vehicles, my business partner bought a clean, running S13 hatch that had been impounded, the tow truck driver who moved it after the sale somehow managed to get it stuck pulling it out so when it was delivered the lower portion of the driver's quarter was pulled so bad it split the body seam. You could reach in through the wheelwell into the hatch. A week later we had a storm and a tree fell on it. Needless to say it didn't get fixed. What you see and what you get may not always even out.
