I am one of those guys that would like to avoid buying a brand new down pipe, when I change from a bottom mount to a top mount set-up.

So if I can go to a shop where my buddy works and have them make me a down pipe at a good price, I would be happy.

I haven't had the greatest experiences with a few exhaust shops, so I went to this one with an open mind only because my friend works there. I bullshit with him about the new set-up and then asked him to talk to his boss about a new down pipe. Mandrel bent 2.5" pipe with 2 bends, v-band on top and a flange for the cat on the bottom. Maybe a slight angle.

They quoted me at $200 but this is without the car there. He said it could be lower or it could be higher.

My question--> What is everybody else going/paying for downpipes? I am talking shop made not greddy, peakboost, megan racing, whoever.

Yea, I'd expect to pay more than that.. And whats this shit about 2.5"??? Beat.. I wouldn't do it unless its a 3" pipe. I paid $200 for a custom intake for my SR. 304SS, chromed out, sooo pretty. Later on I could only manage to sell it for $40. You're mostly paying for the labor.. there are many man hours for something like that. It's cool that the pipe would have v-band on it.. Nice and all.. But are you going to be pushing enough power to need it? You can always upgrade to v-band later. I would honestly purchase something aftermarket..

Shop made be prepared to pay material costs plus hourly labor of 65 an hour.

so 200$ isnt bad. a vBand assembly is often 40 or more, mandrel bends 25 and up. and the cat flange 10$ plus the hour to hour and half labor. and stainless cost a little more then that. I normally tell customers that downpipes start at 175 to 200$ in mild steel and 200-250 starting for stainless.

2.5"??????????? N**** please. At least AT LEAST 3". If you're puttin on somethin that warrants a top mount and v band setup i'd consider a 3.5" downpipe running to a 3" cat back setup. Another option is to buy some bulk piping and cut/weld it yourself. I'm doubting you've got welding experience, but maybe your buddy could weld it for you using someone else's welder for a case of beer or somethin

$200 seems steep to me. I paid $50 to have the OE resonators cut out and bypassed on my LS400, which required bending and welding, so a downpipe shouldn't be more than $125 or so. Same guys also made a short intake for my old KA years ago for $60, it was three pieces welded, grinded, with two nipples installed.
