Iono, UpGarage. I saw a lot of Autobacs in japan but I think those are kinda like autozones.

Hmm well I was at Yokota Air Base and some close ones to the base are... Border, KSP engineering, Up Garage, Tanaka Engineering, BN sports Garage. And if you happen to find Car Friend which is on Shin Ome Kaido ( route 5) BN, Tanaka are both on that road. and you happen to get some pics of some of the finest VIP rides around Ill give you some money if you get good pics but If I give you money you cant post. Its about 45 min on the train. Just get to the city Fussa and you will find a lot.
Good luck and have fun..
Oh and Visit roppongi if you want to party!! and Beware its expensive. about 10$ for a beer!!
just get drunk befor you go ;)

There's not many car shops in Tokyo. You have to go to the adjacent prefecture, Chiba. They have all the big time tuners like Signal Auto and Top Secret.

You're better off using the mainland forums like Hipertekspeed or ziptied.

you better off just pm'ing some of the older premies that live in Japan..
but Jspec240 already gave you enough information..
go check those spots he mentioned out...The VIP scene is amazing there..
..you can always get someone to do an online search for junkyards in the area you are in....

You should go to daikoku on a friday night. that's when the "racers" come out.
You also need to party at a GASPANIC...It's a club. Nippon is the sh**!

There's an Autobacs in the bay. Take the subway. There's a Tommykaira dealer there, and the surrounding area is pretty interesting. There should be some modded S-chassis in the parking lot for that weird multicolored thing, if you go on a good day.

There is some crazy like 3 story arcade in Japan, not sure if it's in Tokyo or not. It looks like its worth checkin' out. They have hardcore Initial D machines there hahaha.

Forget about trying to go to the junkyards. Have a good time while your there. Try to visit some of the areas in Tokyo. Shibuya is a cool place to walk around. Find the SEGA arcade and try the pachinko machine, just don't lose track of time. Roppongi is only good on the weekend. I can't remember where the Nissan and Honda museums are at this time... Anyone?
Don't let the train system get to you. Just find the english chart or ask the front desk guy. He'll help ya. Taxi will get expensive, just walk and take the trains everywhere.

so when foreigners go to japan, do the locals get annoyed by these people who jsut come and stare/look at their cars? or when people visit shops to just look around?

i recomend going to diaba to check out the toyota musium and the shell meusium . i dont recomend roppongi , unless you want to get raped by big ass nigerian guys , that wont leave you alone untill you go in their club . if you do go hide your wallet and valuables . shinjuku is hella fun and so is shibuya . and when i went to (i know this is spelled wrong but) dikokufuto nothing was crackin , but i have heard stories of crazy gatherings and if you are lucky you might be able to watch some drifting from the mc donalds on the second story .

Haha no they are not meen....
But there is no way in hell anyone is going to give some random foreigner a ride in their car.
I dont live in Japan but i travel and work there often enough to know that they (Most japanese) get sketchy around you as it is.
yes there is the rare exception that they are willing to show interest in american or even dare to speak english but unless you are with other japanese or you speak japanese the chances of them taking any time for you, busy or not is slim to none.
Just my opinion though

Bar/Club called Vanilla in Rapongi, lots of hawt JDM Ace* (best time of my life...lol)
And the multi-story SEGA Arcade is also in the area.
The Dikoku parking meets don't seem to be kickin like they usted to.
and shop wise, Go to Garage Saurus. (lots of good stuff to see) and Haiyashi San is super cool. Just outside of Tokyo.
Also if you have time i'd defently recommend heading over to Yokohama.
It's my fav. city their. They have a really cool China Town, unlike anything ive seen.

in tokyo alone there are something like 6 up garages. i hit almost every one of them.. they are great! they have great prices on tons of used parts. i bought tons of stuff. the other thing i did was carry a hyper rev book with me. any place i wanted to go i would call a cab and show the driver the address. if is was too far they would tell me. this was a great way to see shops. PLEASE call JUN when you get to tokyo, the owner met me at the train station in his personal lexus... drove me to his machine shop/office. one of the BEST things i did the whole time. he does speak english pretty well so he will tour you around and show you what all he has going on. if you call early enough in the morning, and he has time, he will take you to the main garage where they do all the car builds. i dont know if you are interested in Spoon very much but, if you are the type one garage is amazing. the stopped by the office building and asked if Ichisima had time to speak with me. he came out and asked what i was doing in japan, etc.. he drove me in his mini van to the type one garage and let me look all around. they always have impressive cars there... as well as the cleanest shop in the world.
by the way, corn soup is awesome out of the vending machines!

Tokyo sorta sucks if your looking for car stuff to buy. I found Yellow hat which sucks (its at the end of hibiya line i think the stop is called naka-meguro) If your just looking to look at stuff def. check out the nissan show room, find spoon sports, i think the closest upgarage's are in kawasaki, yokohama, and one on the more outskirts of tokyo.
When my cousin use to live 15 minutes away from gifu in a town called kaka-migahara there were a ton of small car shops with amazing deals. If your looking for car parts just try to find machida upgarage i heard they have lots of parts for sale. I went to the kawasaki upgarage thinking all upgarage's were created equal and i found out they are not. All they had were wheels which is a pain in the ass to bring back. Its easier to pay yokota to go get them.
