A sad end to a short story...56k DEATH

I got my car sometime in January, I had just had it for barely over a year, and put many hours of blood sweat and tears in it since I got it.

I took an ENTIRE Super Bowl Sunday to get EVERYTHING swapped over from my white car, to this black car.

The day I got her, next to my old car. SUPER CLEAN. 124,000 miles on her, and I thought I was gonna get a lot more than I did out of her.

As of 9:10 PM 3/17/2008 my car's life was ended.

She was sitting parked outside of my job waiting for me to get off work when she was struck by a Volkswagon Jetta heading down the street in front of my work OBVIOUSLY going over the speed limit.

I haven't settled everything yet, but I did get the car out of the tow lot, and I'm currently trying to get whatever I can for my loss. I don't know what is gonna happen to the parts.

I won't answer many questions on this issue as this is a public forum and anything I say can be used against me in a court.

I will continue posting up about it after everything is settled, but who knows how long that is gonna take...

The driver of the guilty party and I are insured by AAA.

I'm not sure what I'm doing next, it's really up to the insurance.

I can't be at fault, I was legally parked on a public road and this guy can't keep his cock in his pants AFTER racing GoKarts. It's really pathetic honestly.

That car is my only car, and I have no way of getting around. He destroyed my cherry car that was really hard to find.

I've been actively searching craigslist, just checking to see what I could replace it with, and all I find is molested pieces of junk and stock automatic cars for $$$$$$$$$ that I don't have.

Insurance isn't gonna cover my time that I spent working on the car, nor the time it would take to pay a mechanic.

I also missed an hour of work to go collect the car from the tow yard so I wouldn't incur anymore expenses that I can't really cover! The money I spent taking the car out was going to go to installing my new clutch!

Motor, intake, camber plates, tranny, majority of suspension, wheels (you said sadface, but do they hold air, at least?). You'll find a clean S13 shell soon, and be able to swap it all over. just keep reciepts of all your expenses. The insurance comapny will pay you back for towing fees and a rental car. Get a folder to keep all that stuff with you.

You can get your rental car asap. I had mine for 3 weeks while my stuff got settled and didnt have to pay a dime for it.

Just make sure you print out the list of local 240's for sale that are similar to yours. Then have your insurance give you the avg. Dont settle on blue book, go for fair market value.

You can fix it. I'll cost maybe 1k to2k maximum to get it straight. You have to keep that car man, she is so clean. You won't find another car like that and you know it! Fix it.... i've seen so much worse! (I had more than 4k last year in repair and I did it and i've never regret my choice. The car was in bad shape and now, it drives like new.

almost the same thing happened to me 2 years ago. My neighbor came out of her garage like a spaceship launching and rear ended the front of my car. We both had AAA. AAA was easy to deal with, they gave me a rental car for a month while they figure things out.


one advice tho, they will give you a price that's lower than what you'd expect. Make sure you do the research on current 240 values and go find all your receipts. They asked for my receipts when i said "what about the aftermarket parts that i replaced?"

All things happen for a reason, and while often they aren't in your favor, keep your head up, as things typically always come in waves, and get better in waves as well

Cars / parts are replaceable, and as previously stated, its frustrating but getting a shell and swapping over just takes time, but no real money lost

Keep in mind you don't need to find a black shell, it can be white, blue, red whatever, just paint it while its still a shell

Good luck with the insurance process though, I've heard good things about AAA from my friend who have them

My suspension was all oem aside from beefy tension rods.

The only thing that actually snapped was the driver's side front strut.

Everything else was bent, but still in tact.

While Kazama (and other brands) are machined aluminum

So I'd expect the aluminum to shear, whereas the steel would bend

Doesn't mean either is better than the other, but just sayin...

Looks like MOST of your aftermarket shit is intact, if you get a good resolution with insurance and find a clean chassis, you should be in the clear.

Flkon240-san, here's what happened to me a week from yesterday. Merging onto highway. Idiot to my left decides at the last moment he wants to merge as well. Does not signal. 89' Piggy Vs. 07 Honda Odessy at 60mph. You get the picture. There were no witnesses and since we were both able to drive away the cop told me that they were not going to report it and it has to be hashed out through insurance. He did tell me that my story was more credible than the other guys.
Filed claim.
Adjuster comes out and looks at it. "dude your car is totaled. It will need to be repainted. You passenger fender is done. He scuffed your tire. He scuffed your door and even left a mark on the rear passenger wheel well. We're sorry. It's worth $1400."
I tell him well I'm keeping it because it's got well over 10K put into it. He told me to send him my receipts and he'll see if he can get me more money. Final verdict. $1685.01 (Originally $2185.01- $500 deductible) and some bruised ribs. NICE!! After the isurance company's work it out and they do decide to pay, I should get a check for $500 sometime in the future.
Since my car is not that jacked I'm just replacing the fender and buffing out the areas where the Odessy tried to hump me.
The adjuster told me to drop my coverage to liability only, fix it then have it appraised. After doing that, take the new figure to my local insurance agent and have them look at it. Bump it back up to full coverage. That way if I got into another wreck I would get what it's worth based on the figure the appraiser gives me and not just the retail value for age and mileage of the car.

Example:
89 piggy (modded) appraised for $6000.
Salvage value of car based on age and mileage less mods
= 20% of retail value
retail value: $1400 salvage value: $280

What you get back
$6000 -
Salvage value (280(if you keep it))
- deductible (500)

You get a check for $5220 and you keep your car

In your case it different because the kids dad said he'd "take care of it". At least he admits to fault. that way you should get your deductible back. Just buy it back. Rape it and put in all in another chassis. That's what I would do.
