So I have an S15 Sr that needs a new alternator. SHould I modify an S13 one to fit on or should I just go and modify a maxima one to fit. I have no looked at how hard it is to modify either and have searched but couldnt find much. I dont mind putting on an S15 SR but dont know where I can get one...
Also anyone know of a "walkthough" or "guide" out there to help me remove the old one and put on the new one. Again, I searched but didnt find a whole lot of anything useful.
I recently had the alternator on my s13.. w/redtop rebuilt..
I took it to this place they charged me like 120bucks.. and guaranteed it for 2 years.. I would check to see if there is someone like that around you.

it shouldn't be that tough to remove/install an alternator. pretty simple and straight forward. just take your time, there's a few bolts, a relay, and a pulley. thats it. just try to get the s15 alternator. or get the other one rebuilt.

Not a bad idea... now just to gt it off... cant seem to do it... spent like 2 hours under the car and didnt get it out. Ok, maybe not 2 hours, but a good half hour for sure :P
I tried to just take off the bolts, but couldnt get some of them to budge, even with WD40...

$120 for an alternator rebuild!? You can get a brand new one for less..
I wonder if there are any others compatible with an S14 SR..doesn't seem like alot of people know though.
as far as it being stuck, time to use the enforcer:

most of the time there are part numbers on the alternator that you can be crossed over at advance auto. Take it off and try to see if you can buy one locally, you may be suprised

All I did was take the pulley off the KA Alternator and put the Greddy SR pulley on. Dunno what all this modifying talk is about.

If you don't have another Alternator laying around. Just look up automotive electric in your phone book. You have to have one around you. The internals are the same so they should have no problem rebuilding it. I don't think my friends CA rebuild was more than $40-60.

You guys are getting slaughtered. I get them rebuilt for $45-65 depending on the type of voltage regulator used, they don't charge more than $100 for even the big Caterpillar diesel units. $120 is nearly the price for a brand new unit.
And to whoever said it above, there is no relay on the alternator, nor one that needs to be removed.
