View Full Version : Questions asked with doing no research
Hey,
1st I dont know if this is in the right section, if its not, please move it to the proper section.
2nd I have done this, I think alot of us on here have. I think it needs to end however.
3rd Should there be a rule that bans someone for like 2-3 days if they ask a question without doing research..
4th I understand asking questions on stuff. Its good to get a second, third, fourth, or more opinions on stuff. But do research then get opinions on things you have decided in your own mind. Dont just do what everyone else does.
Here is what i think. I am sick of people posting.. How long will it take me to change my tie rods? Where do i buy a turbo? Do 300z brakes fit on my 240? How do i change spark plugs on my sr20?
There are some things its reasonable to ask. And then there are others that people look at, laugh at you because they think you are stupid, and poke fun at you. I try to do research on my own to see if i can come up with answeres to my questions, find pricing on stuff i want to buy, get different options on stuff i am debating on putting in my s chassis, and different stuff related to my project i am doing. I think and would expect fellow enthusiests to do this as well. Sure doing some research requires asking questions.. Do i have to cut the body of my car in order to get the z32 trans to fit on my s14 w/sr20? < that is a reasonable question to ask.. Unless you do extensive research you wouldnt know, MazworX doesnt post that on their site. You have to look for install pictures and such.
I know we all arent perfect at this, But can we please make a effort. Feel free to agree, disagree, comment, respond to this.
thanks again.
Casey

Dude, you've been on here for a month and you're sick of it? Image us people that have been on here for years.
Although it is quit annoying, like saying Type X Aero, if we banned everyone that made a thread like that more then likely 3/4 the forum will be banned at some time or another.

You can't ban people for posting dumb threads and asking dumb questions, no one would be here. And yeah, you've been here a month...better get used to it.

I understand where you are coming from I unfortunately happened to be one of those people that did it. Im not afraid to admit but if there are "dumb" questions asked trust me from experience and from all the big posters on this page you will get your shit lined out and get plenty of constructive criticism on the forum. And from that I believe you learn better by getting your shit lined out by your fellow car enthusiasts rather than just booting them off ya know. And believe me just having bad rep giving to you is bad enough. Thats just my 2 cents

I think those thread should stay and re-direct people to Nico when opened.
i am not talking about a ban for good.. i am talking like a suspension, or maybe we should just charge them $. haha good idea- sure. will it happen.. probably not.
ya i have only been on THIS forum for a month. But i have been on car forums for years.
another question that bugs me is what is requierd for zenki-kouki conversions. Or The what tools will i need.< i understand asking if you will need to use a specialty tool.. but i sure as shit am not going to tell you what sockets you will need, or if you need a screwdriver. FUCK people do research!!!!

To be fair a lot of how-to's don't and even stuff like Hayne's don't really put in enough detail to get the job done. For example, "remove axle nut". What they don't tell you is that it may take 5 minutes with an impact gun. Only experience will tell you that.
Also recognize that not everybody has the same background. You have people who have never picked up a wrench before, to people who are ASE mechanics. Obviously you can't cater to the lowest common denominator or else the thread will be 1,000 pages long starting with how to use a screwdriver.
My biggest gripes with online how-to's is that they skim over essential details. It's like they'll say "install radiator". Then you see a picture of the radiator installed with fans already hooked up.
If you don't know how, that's a big gap in the steps necessary to get the job done in my mind.
But on the other side there's a lot of information so they should at least search first to get the basics.

im almost 25...just think, ive been putting up with it on forums and on the streets for that much longer than you. and look at some of the people above me, theyre close to and around 30ish, hell, i cant believe theyre still in the game, but they are! and probably because they dont let the little turds that ask redundant questions get to them, simply shake their head and maybe even leave them a little red square reminding them of just how lazy they really are. jack says just to ignore it, and thats probably the best you can do.

Ok so do 300zx turbo hubs fit the 240sx or is it just the NA 300zx????
You can't ban people for asking noob questions. It's gonna happen cause there are always people too lazy to search. The most you can really do is post "do a search" and not answer them.
