The reviewer liked the acceleration from the 3.3L V6 and we agree that it sounds great, but from there things get ugly. The Genesis sedan had too much body roll, its driving characteristics were far from dynamic, the brakes were mushy and the tires struggled to grip the road even when they weren't being pushed that hard. The on-camera reviewer summed up the Genesis by saying that luxury equipment does not a luxury vehicle make.

I wanna drive one for myself. I still like the idea and I think (without driving it) the execution was well done.

it's easily the best looking car korea has put on the road to date. and i do want to drive one. 375 horsepower, six speed autotragic. in a korean car.
so what are these going to cost? and why are you spelling korea with a c?

also, it looks like, as usual, the korean version gets cooler badging. seriously, if hyundai wanted a car to sell better here in america, all they'd need to do would be leave on the korean badging, or just shave the badges. slapping the crooked honda logo on the trunk immediately deducts like 70 cool points.

Its a pretty nice looking car. I hope the coupe comes here in the US with the Turbo I4. I have a Hyundai too that's modified and my parents drive a 2004 Sonata, they aren't really bad cars, just misjudged by ignorant people that can't keep up with modern times.
I hope this car changes the thinking of some people to look at things with a more open mind because Hondas and Nissans were all once in the same shoes as Hyundai is right now.

no you don't. it's so boring. my daily is a damn acura, and unless i'm blowing down the highway at triple digit speeds, which it eats up, it's SO BORING.

Hyundai launching Lexus-like luxury brand... in China
Posted Mar 17th 2008 2:02PM by Noah Joseph
Filed under: China, Hyundai
Speculation has been mounting for some time now that Hyundai could spin off a luxury division, and those rumors have finally been confirmed. But while Toyota, Nissan and Honda initially targeted its luxury brands (Lexus, Infiniti and Acura, respectively) at the American market, emerging reports suggest that Hyundai's premium marque will make its debut in China.
Hyundai is currently the second most popular import in the rapidly-growing Chinese auto market, trailing only Toyota for sales in the country. With five different models, Hyundai sold 24,000 vehicles in China last year, and manufactures more in joint ventures locally. Eying the emerging luxury car market in China – Lexus sales increased 160 percent last year and was projected at 80% growth this year – Hyundai has confirmed it is preparing to launch its own premium brand there. However, while it would seem that the establishment of a luxury badge would allow the mainstream Hyundais to move downmarket, the Korean automaker is also attempting to take its standard models upmarket along with it. One of its most popular models in China, the Matrix minivan, is being withdrawn as Hyundai tries to increase its brand image as a premium automaker. In its place, Hyundai is bringing in the new Santa Fe, Azera, a larger, more expensive Coupe and a new premium crossover.
The luxury division – complete with its own name and badge – is expected to be officially launched in 2010. Whether the new brand will make the trip around the world and land on American shores remains to be seen, but we certainly wouldn't discount the possibility.

what are they talking about?
Last week, Volkswagen reported a sales record of more than 900,000 vehicles in China in 2007, up 28 percent, while GM said its sales in the country were up 19 percent to 1.03 million vehicles.

It was a bit vague, b/c it was mostly personal impression without stats. however he did seem to be comparing it to the german rwd luxury cars, some of which like the 7 series arn't too bad at all handling for being a limo.
What he said doesn't seem unreasonable though. could be the skinny tires, or the over-soft dampening, Hyundai's lack of experience building a rwd car, etc among other thing. "Feels like fwd car, doesn't seem stable at certain speeds (guessing he meant on sweepers, and not on a straight highway), too much body roll. Granted, I was skeptical about something lost in the sketchy translation, but it was a plausible review.
Even if this was a car with good driving dynamics, it's not plausible that it would succeed in an image conscious market like NA. VW made the same mistake not so long ago either.

I saw it in person, and it had the same badging. The exterior already looks dated though, considering they just ripped it off from BMWs and Mercedes Benzes that have been out for years.
