First off, let me excuse my lack of technical knowledge. Second, excuse the shitty pics.

Cliff notes:
-Are these restrictors essentially the same?
-Why doesn't the P2M restrictor fit... wtf.

Ok, I thought about this, and some of it doesn't make sense. I have earls / taka lines. The restrictor on the right is the new one I ordered from P2M via Bings (I thought I needed it for my t28, which is a ball bearing turbo). The one on the left is the one that came with the lines.

Now I was under the impression that the one that came with the taka's was not flow restricted for use with journal bearing turbos, but it obviously has a small pin sized hole at the back (restriction). My new restrictor has the same sized hole, but instead of being on the backside, its on the front side. Both restrictor holes are the same size. The other thing is that my new restrictor is not even the right size... It threads into my turbo, but it's too small for the size of the line.

Sooooo plan is to use the one I had before and send the other one back.

Right?

You answered your own question?

hahahahaha

Yes I know, I'm just looking for a second opinion.

And why does the restrictor that P2M sells not fit the earls lines...

Could be the difference between a 3AN line and a 4AN line?

I have no clue, since I have never had these things in my hands to examine before, and probably won't, since I'll be reusing my stock lines.

The new one looks like a 3an fitting and the old one looks likea 4an fitting

Yea, send it back.

Oil restrictors are made so that you dont over pressure the ball bearing turbo.

Did your lines not come with the restrictor fitting?

I ordered some Circut Sport turbo lines, and they had the restrictor already included with the line.

You can always go to your local performance shop (good one) and try to match the A/N fitting.

The one on the left's hole looks way too big...the one on the right looks like a 0.03" hole, which I believe is what is recommended for BB Turbos by Garrett.

The unit on the right looks like my custom machined restrictors. :)

I have two variations of restrictors. 0.06 for journal bearing turbos and 0.03 for ball bearing turbos.

Looks like you have both a -3 restrictor (taka restrictor) and -4 restrictor (not a taka unit).

Put up pics of your oil line and we can figure out the problem and find appropriate solutions.

Any more info on the left restrictor would be appreciated.

I have an oil restrictor from ATP Turbo and you can get either -4 or -3 and it goes on the turbo not on the line really. But yah weird they would sell you a -4 since most of the line they carry is a -3...

Here are the pictures. What I don't get is that these don't look like the ones P2M advertise as taka's... and I think they use pictures from another brand because I don't think taka's use banjo bolts, right?

Man, my camera sucks but I was trying to point out that these are earl's lines.

One restrictor is a -3, the other is a -4. It's as simple as that.

also one is npt for non ball bearing. one is 7/16ths IF for ball bearing.

wtf is the deal with that. who sells a restrictor with an NPT pitch?

Those lines are pretty shitty. one non swivel fitting, one random aeroquip or something fitting, which doesn't even look seated.

The Circuit Sports I got from P2M are way nicer than those, wonder what the fuck happened there.

I dunno, I won't buy lines again, Time is money but damn, those guys have to be laughing their way to the bank selling shit like that.

Taka makes new lines that does use banjo. Introduced on their site. ATP turbo is just down the freeway from me, super awesome place. Sponsors a lot of draggers in norcal.

Haha, they came with the car. The reason one's not seated is that I began taking it off by accident.

So, the consensus here is that none of these will work on my s14 t28 right? The -4 (the one on the left, that I had originally) wouldn't suffice?

I made Taka lines with banjo oil lines for P2M before I made my custom machined restrictor fittings years ago. I have not sold banjo lines for well over a few years now.

As you stated, those are not Taka lines or even CS lines.

To answer your question, if those lines are going on an s13 engine, they should fit if you trust the -4 restrictor. I would tighten up the hose ends on that water/coolant feed line (the shorter one), they don't look like they have been tightened properly.

Ok, I will use the -4 restrictor. After all, t28's are expensive to replace.

And as I stated before, I was aware that the line needed to be tightened.

Thanks Harpreet, and everyone else.

+rep!

p.s. I'll let you know if my t28 blows from using a -4 instead of -3.

The -4 or -3 AN lines shouldn't be the cause of any kind of blowing up of a turbo, as long as the restrictor is there.

The oil has to pass through the restrictor no matter what, before it gets into the turbo, so you should be fine running either size lines.
