I want to get a copy done for my master because it has a small crack in it. Should I order a blank master from courtesyparts and bring that in or would I be good just going into a locksmith?

Yeah, get a new one asap from any locksmith/key shop.
Then destroy the one that has a crack in it after you confirm that the new keys work. Last thing you want is that key cracking off in a cylinder.

Got to who ever makes keys in your area. Alway double check that the key(s) you get work in the doors/trunk/ignition before leaving the store. Having a spare key is important.

i will say that i like the oem key rather than the stores that make them a dealer around might have one since they were pretty universal for many models

getting it out is lucky.
my f'n key broke off and i cant even touch it. it broke on the tip and the lock pin is blocking it so i cant get it out..(dammit) i knew the key was cracked when i stuck it in there. but couldnt find the solid key. And i was runnin late for work. changing lock cylinders sucks donkey balls..

I went to dealership to make a spare key. A guy at the counter looked at my key and wrote down some numbers on the piece paper. He went back side and came back with a new key that worked 100%... It was cool.

I personally would get a blank key and inquire on having Nissan dealership cut it IF the crack is in the ridges of the key. Who knows how Wal-mart or where ever cutter will read the "crack". Sadly, you will pay a decent amount to get cut by the dealership but at least they take your VIN and cut it to specific factory specs of your specific car.
The choice is up to you but you can go for the cheaper route first especially if the crack is not that bad.

Unfortunately the crack is over a ridge and if you look closely it goes all the way around. Like one part is cracked and you can see the rest of the area is stressed from it. When I bought the car I wasn't given an extra key unfortunately.

Shit man..after I heard what they charged a for freakin gas cap im not even surprised.
my key broke once and i had to take out my lock cyl and take it all apart.
you need a punch to take out your lock cyl.
that shit is ass.
always keep a spare. you always need atleast 2 keys for your car i had 3.
one to leave at home one in my wallet. and the other on my chain.
the one is my wallet saved me a grip of times!.
like lets say you start your car and then you go in your trunk and you know hatches the trunk doesnt stay up sometimes. and then i have a alarm that auto locks my car wen car is started. so then i go to my trunk and it dind up latch but the door shut on me before i can try to unlatch it agen haha!!!. keys in the car, cars running. lucky i have my wallet key.

Stealerships are not cheap that's why I said just to inquire but definitely look into the cheaper route first because if your car starts, then that's all that matters. :)

Keys get cut by machine. There's no skill involved with cutting a key. However, there is error if the guy who is cutting it is slow or drunk.
Oem keys are made out of nickel. Very tough material. Ask the guy who is cutting your oem key to double cut it if it is a genuine OEM key for a precise perfect cut. The cutting thingamadoo gets worn out cutting OEM keys, and will leave traces of metal on they key.. If you get that in your lock cylinder, it will make it very tough to open lock =( Cheapo keys are made out of other materials, and only require one cut. Either way, physically look at the keys and make sure there are no rough edges. If there are, get a razor and clean the key off.
At the toyota dealer I work at, I've cut hundreds of keys. Once again.. no skill required. I've had bent keys, cracked keys, keys bent down and up, and left and right. Just take a hammer and straighten the original key out as much as possible...It doesn't make much of a difference, either way.
Most dealerships will charge $5 or so more to cut a key by code.. They physically look up the key code, and cut the key from the key machine's memory. Ask the parts guy if he can cut it by code for the best cut.. Sometimes the code is NOT stored however. Also, if you want a cheapo or genuine Nissan key, request one or the other.. Often times the OEM part may not be stocked for older cars like ours.
The dealership may stock other "Nissan" branded keys. If the guy behind the counter truly cares about your business, he can match one up with ease. Hope this helps someone.
By the way.. you can take your lock cylinders to a lock smith for cleaning/repair. Or if you have miss matching lock cylinders, a locksmith can make them all work off of one key.. Runs about $40 per cylinder in my area.
If anyone needs more information, PM me =) Hope my shpeal helps someone.

EDIT: Valet keys usually differ in shape at the very point of the key. Master is an arrow, valet is not.

Wow, thanks for that. I just got back from home depot before I read this. The key works perfect for the door, trunk, and ignition. Strangely enough I asked for two copies and the second one didn't work at all. I even had him redo it and it still did work for any of the locks so i got a refund. I noticed it was quite skinnier in appear then my other copy. I was charged $1.79.
Thanks again guys.
