View Full Version : Dif dual fan controller+fans? SEARCHED!!!

Stock s13 ka24de.. I picked up a dif fan controller which is rated at 30 amps total or 15 for each fan.. Ive heard good and bad things about altima fans as well as the mighty taurus fan.
my question is which fan setup would work best with the dif.. would the taurus fan on low (which ive heard is plenty) draw to much current for the dif? how about the altimas on high? I have been searching for weeks and cant seem to find the exact info i need. I live in stl missouri which sees 100+degree weather in the summer and i drive ALOT! up to 1000miles a week. So i want to do this the best possible way to avoid blowing another hg and warping another head. any info is appreciated!!

I run the dual FAL fans with my controller. No problems for a year, except I think my controller crapped out on me. It will no longer automatically turn the fans on at their preset temp.

ive got my altimas on low constantly with the key in the ON position. ran it in my KA24DE for about 6 months no problems, and now I have it on my SR...no problems yet

bump for any more answers... i ran my old setup constantly on with ignition and it will kill the life of the fan which is why i overheated and warped the head beyond repair... im doing it right this time... anyone know the current draw and if the dif can handle the loads of these fans

Thats great if you want to run ur fans on all the time and destroy them and your motor... im telling you all, run your fans even on low all the time and youll be lucky to get a year before they die and you destroy your motors. LIKE MINE DID!! such a waste of power too your just making your alt work harder to compensate for the constant draw and are losing hp..

have altima fans on constant low and i have replaced alternator twice. cant keep car running wen coming up to a stop. also, major draw when i start the car. have to rev it up to 2000 rpm to get enough volts to keep car running

It's best to use your own bosch type relay. (I put mine where the ABS relay would go if I had ABS). I hooked my 87 to the positive terminal on the battery with a 30A fuse. The 30 to the (+) wires on the fans, the 85 grounded to the chassis and the 86 would be the (+) switch to enable to fans to come on which I just wedged in the fuel pump fuse slot.
You've gotta remember, when you buy Altima fans they are already like 10+ years old, so of course they're bound to go out sometime.

that's why i buy new factory replacement ones on ebay. i rather spend $80 shipped for a new one then $30 for 10+ yr old one.

uh yea so they run all the time making your alternator work harder, losing any advantage over the stock clutch fan.

So why not just go back to the stock clutch fan setup since you think its far more superior? Don't come back to me when the studs on the water pump pulley brake off and the clutch fan goes haywire inside your engine bay as well as your water pump and alternator no longer functioning.

Because if you run the e-fans the right way which is NOT on all the time you will have stock reliability with all the advantages of removing the clutch fan... I dont care if you run yours all the time thats not what i asked...

I don't really believe in running efans all the time. Yes it can be done and while it might shorten the life of the motor, I am more concerned with quick warmup and not overcooling the car. If I were to run my two altima fans on high with the key on, I can drive forever and the car will not warm up past 60C unless I have the AC on and its 90+ degrees outside.
As for my recommendation regarding the DIF controller, I would just use the controller to trigger two 30A relays - 1 for each fan. Then you don't have to worry about overloading the internal relays regardless of what fan you use.

that I did for FA.
The only thing that should be noted is that looking at the wiring for the DIF controller, it looks like it actually switched 12v+ instead of ground like most of the other fan controllers. Make sure you take this into consideration when using my schematic.
