well that's all for now. btw, is there any other silvia specific forums? i noticed that this seems to be only 240s......

Where are you geographically?
This is mainly a 240 forum because the vast majority of the members are in N.America, where we were not fortunate enough to get the 180/200/s13 silvia/etc. No boost for us (from the factory anyways heehee )

and yes v-tecH 0wnzz me.....for now!!

here's a REALLY old pic of my honduhh which i have track whored up until this year cuz the rebuild gave me lots of problems

that was from last year at Gingerman in MI. closest decent track from chicago which is where i am from.

hopefully i'll be able to do somewhat the same with the S13, although i will admit the first reason luring me to these is so i can have b0000st

if you're that interested in "b0000sting", i'm actually pretty sure it's easier and cheaper to turbocharge your civic. a 240sx does not come stock with a turbo, and afaik, there are only 2 or 3 (4?) kits out there for our engine... each running in the 3,500+ price range. none of these kits are 'legal' either, though greddy has been 'near completion' on a legal kit for a few years now...

Good to have you aboard.. (I love seeing converts ) Your gonna love the S13 on the track.. you may however want to stay with the KA for at least your first few events though with the car, to get a feel for how the car handles without boost. RWD is Much different feeling than FWD (even though the line is almost identical.) But Boost is fun either way.

What are you thinking right now in the boost category? SR/CA/KA?? or do you know? I tend to think the SR makes a little better track motor because it is a good bit higher strung than the KA.. those extra revs are nice to have.

1fasts13
10-29-2002, 06:02 PM
well to answer about boosting a civic, first off i have always been a proponent of if the motor came from the factory NA or turbo, it should stay that way. yes you can make lots of power turbocharging a civic, but its just my opinion that if its made NA it should stay that way. and i'm not about to get into all the complications with running boost on FF either!!

my civic has been fairly well setup as NA track car so i'm gonna keep it that way. i wasnt necessarily looking to do a 240, i was also looking into possibilites of 180 also, as that would help in the cost factor. but of course 240 is preferable

yes b000st is an addicition....and i miss it!! 3 years of NA and i am ready to hear that snail winding up definitely go SR route. i might get some flames on this one, but i was originally going for this to get it fast straight line. not that i dont want to try the drifting thing, yes its cool and fun and all but on an everyday scale that is just not that realistic. so above all else, i want the car fast first. then later i'll worry about setting up more towards being able to track it.

well anyways... good luck on your 240 plans... i hope its everything you hoped for... i know it was for me..

Actually there's a few decent tracks near chicago. In addition to gingerman is Grattan, Road America, and Blackhawk farms. All these tracks are part of the Midwestern Council season. If you're serious about tracktime you should look it up, if you're not a member already.

You just missed the last 240sx meet in chicago for the year, you would have been civic number 2 at the meet . Your car looks good though, as long as you didn't slap a wing on it.

Have fun with your new project, you have somewhat the same goals as me, except I decided to wait on the boost, after bieng here for a while you might change your mind.

the way you were talking about "doing a 180", i must just ask one question, do you know they are not available in the U.S.?sure you can do the "CONVERSION" but it will never be the same. just turbo the ka, highhh revs are good. (as found in the sr) but dont forget about torque.

good luck in your plans, matt

i was just looking at your pics of your black civic and it got me wondering. how do you have 5 lug wheels on your civic, i have the same gen civic( 92-95) sitting in my driveway and have 4 lugs, i dont think i have ever seen a 5 lug civic(orhonda) for that matter. i know the lug pattern size differs between the civic and say, the accord, but still both have 4 lug. let me know how yu did it as im curious
thanks,matt

well thanks for all the comments!! sorry i'm not exactly overly familiar with what all US models are available, i guess that comes from watching one too many option vids!!!

ok so its only 240s here, so i guess i will try to find a decent 240 and go from there!! hoping i can find a 91+ for around 2k but i know thats gonna be tough, but i have time on my side

yes i do know about those other tracks just havent had a chance to take a whirl at them. hopefully after i strip the civ and strap on a custom 8pt i will be able to whore those tracks up next year!!

and thanks for not flaming about the straight line thing....i'm on honda tech and the first mention of drag racing on the ITR forum you get nothing but flames and disgust about ohh well the R is not for drag race blah blah blah.....to me its like if the guy wants to drag it, then so be it!! its his car after all!!

as for the 5 lug on my civic, well that's a full ITR suspension conversion. i run full ITR brakes/hubs/trailers/sways/etc. about a year ago that was still somewhat rare, now it is a dime a dozen

im a big fan of the 240, but from what it seems like you already have sunk into your civic, you should continue with it. turbo kits for the civic are "a dime a dozen"

well as i said in one of my replies, i have always been a proponent of "what it comes from the factory should stay that way" as in whether it comes factory NA or turbo that's how it should be!! otherwise they would have made honda motors turbo too hehe....the setup is already all geared towards NA with higher compression, cams, 4.9 FD, etc etc and i like it alot so i'm not gonna change it one bit!!

with the S13, i was looking at it as a semi-cheap way to go fast straight line without the DSM hassle of breaking stuff all the time now when i say cheap i'm not saying its not gonna cost, but hell its cheaper than a supra, rx7, wrx and all those other expensive supercars!! i gave the STi swap into 2.5RS ALOT of thought but eventually decided that is gonna be WAY more than i want to spend

ROFL... TYPE ARRR is teh betar tan teh CIvIK wit TYPE ARR StizzNUFF..

btw - The guys on HT are right.. type-r's aren't for drag.. but then again, 240's really aren't either.

I mean if you want a fast drag car get a M00SEtang.. or a similar american V8.. but if you want to, it is doable, and there are several people with drag 240's.

Check out Freshalloy.com too. There are a ton of guys over there with High HP SR powered cars, and several of them are built specifically for drag. (Cough: Greaser :cough: :cough:)

Welcome aboard.

Sounds like you've got your priorities straight to me. Many of us come from teh Honda camps and some still socialize with them (I'm on H-T, but don't leave the comp forum). I'm a former EG Si owner, myself.

As for the 240, hang out and you'll see there are both SR and KA turbo guys w/ damb fast cars that run both light drag and do track days. Both are pretty reliable until you start dreaming of more than about 300 rwhp. Until then, it is just a matter of choice.

Standard welcoming advice - read up and try a search before asking things you think others have wanted to know (the search on FA is/was really good).

when you refer to a 180sx you do mean the 240sx Fastback...
Unless you are in Japan then it is also a 240sx. Neither car came with "boost" they are both N/A cars. Only in Japan (maybe some other countries) did the Silvia/180sx come with "boost." You can always do a conversion if you are up to it or turbo the N/A KA motor. Either way you are looking to spend alot of money. Learn its steering capabilities before you turbo the KA or get an SR... it is still fun driving with out them
