i recently spoke with a shop owner who told me his container was stopped at PORT and was held due to it having sr20det's on it.

anyways customs and dot told him that if they found it again he would be fined 270,000 dollars and up to 5 years in jail..

sounds like they aren't taking shit.

motors can only be a FACTORY replacement and must be sold here in the states as well.:ugh:

anyone else seeing a downfall here?!:aw:

mods i am sorry if this is the wrong section and i hope you can move it accordingly :)

Odd, I figured that since there is a market for foreign engines to be swapped into so-called track only cars, it'd be quite alright. Can anyone confirm this before the price of KA's go up? :keke:

hmm maybe its a socal thing. because they mainly based it on him having the sr20;s in the container.

he probably had more than just sr20s.... maybe coke in the cylinders

port authority has the man power to check 1% of 1% of all shipping in and out of the US.

1. I doubt they will find another one of his containers AGAIN regardless of the SR20 factor

2. SR swaps are played out anyways I could not care less if the US government goes out of their way to stop SR's from being imported... Well, actually I would only because they seriously have ALLOT more shit to take care of instead of looking for SR's that get blown up anyways, wouldn't you agree?

my container just came in and i had no problems at all and i'm in socal. I had SR's, SR clips, RB's etc. on it

It isnt an issue.

IF he was trying to bring in a whole running car without the proper licensing and paperwork and what not then yes, customs will throw a HUGE fit, but just an engine, no.

he is allowed to bring them in to sell for parts and racecar use.

a whole running car is another issue, but car parts are no problem.

it may have been a misunderstading or at least an ill-informed worker on the docks just running their mouth.

played out is a good reason not to do a motorswap.

afk to do RB20 or CA18 because its not played out.

It'll be played out for him after blowing up the 4th stock one just because they're CAs and RB20s, if for no other reason lol

The amount of effort state and federal agencies put into preventing these swaps in absolutely laughable. WHO THE FUCK CARES WHAT MOTOR A CAR HAS IN IT.

its prob how they are acquired, do you think every engine comes from a wrecked car? you dont think people are stealing cars, chop shop style, striping and selling engines cheap? also safer to ship out of country and sell somewhere else.

In california CARB is trying to crack down on the stock replacement market, by getting customs to stop the engines at port of entry.

This is taking two or three different branches and trying to get them to enforce different sets of regulations, ie having a federal branch enforce a single states "benchmarks" (not even laws).

It would be up to the individual agent whether or not to enforce these laws, maybe this guy had a hair up his ass.

Will it become harder to import all "replacement grey market engines" into california? Yes.

Will it be impossible? No, because of the facts that irax stated, that they can only even start to check 1% of 1% and they are too busy checking for drugs, illegal dvds, and WMD's to even be worried about cars/engines.

But CARB isn't, they are waiting, in the wings, to do everything they can by bureaucratic fiat to destroy this whole industry. Their recent assault on ebay and ebay sellers of mopeds, and gopeds was enough to get ebay to start banning sellers of the items, or sellers that would sell to california.

We've been hearing this same story for nearly twenty years. "my friend lost a shipment, they're cracking down". Ever since importers began bringing in 'illegal' parts, the government has made attempts to stop it. There's always seizures and returns going on, but not enough to warrant concern. There's simply too much going on and too many ports unloading containers for them to stay on top of all of it. One guy loosing a few engines and being warned about it does not constitute a mass movement. If you've ever been to a port and watched the action you'd know it would be impossible to monitor every single thing. They'd have to hire hundreds of employees and delay everything coming in for weeks at a time. Not going to happen.

sucks for him. he just got unlucky. that or he's shitting you. but yea, no way they can catch everything. so...i wouldnt worry about it too much, that is, unless its one of your containers that got caught! =T

its really ironic

california is easily THE shittiest state to live in if you want to modify a car, but thats where 90% of the s-chassis guys live.

so glad to live in the midwest. i got pulled over for loud exhaust once, i told the cop it was completely legal, he said "really? alright then, have a nice day"

Not true.
If you have a pre smog car, it's the most awesome state ever.
Hence the reason I'm replacing my S13 with an S30.

And for that matter, for modifying a car, it's a great state to do it in, with all the easy access to shops, industry locations, and junkyards.
It only sucks when you actually want to drive the thing.

Were the SR's still in the cars or something?

well i think he kinda shot himself in the foot becuase he listed the engines on his invoice paperwork.

he had 4 clips-3 s14 sr and one s13 sr the rest were hondas.

That's kind of a mandatory thing. You have to declare all of the items in a container.

I agree with what most have already said. I think if they were going to stop the import of these motors we would be seeing alot more threads than this on it and on every car board out there.

I think its a shame how some states seem to be trying to kill an enthusiest right to modify their car....I dont see how it really hurts anyone.

this is stupid...

We have to list everything we bring in and we have never had a problem. We just got two clips too. Your friend did something else to get him caught up. Simply importing an engine is not illegal.

importing engines and stuff will never stop, its like dealing drugs. someone out there has a demand for it even if you dont do it. and if theres a demand, theres always a supply
