View Full Version : Will my sohc tranny bolt to a dohc motor?

Can anyone enlighten me about the 240 tranny?  I plan on going to a dohc motor using my sohc tranny.  Will it work?

Yeah. Now if you were putting a SOHC tranny on a DOHC motor, you would have to swap bell housings.
Your going to have an extra sensor left over though. The DOHC tranny has two sensors, where hte SOHC has 1.

Hmm, I think you might've got that backwards. &nbsp;He is trying to put a SOHC trans on a DOHC engine.

To clear things up:

The transmission from an SOHC car has three sensors. &nbsp;Neutral, 5th gear, and VSS.

The transmission from a DOHC car has four sensors. &nbsp;Neutral, 4th gear, 5th gear, and VSS.

A DOHC trans on an SOHC engine results in an extra sensor that does nothing.

A SOHC trans on a DOHC engine requires that you swap some part of the case in order to use the DOHC's 4th gear sensor.

Your gonan have to use the DOHC bell housing with the SOHC tranny.

They will interchange and bolt up, some electrical differances but will work..ONLY the 240 SOHC not the truck!!

Talking about interchangeable trannys, are clutches from the DOHC tranny interchangeable with the SOHC tranny?
