That's what I was thinking, too, but how did it get from the muffler all the way to the engine? Maybe not enough backpressure in the exhaust... LOL

Seriously, though, there aren't many parts on your engine that use ball bearings like that. Off the top of my head, I'm thinking water pump, but I can't imagine any way for the water pump bearing to come loose without the impeller being completely destroyed.
Has the engine been apart before, or were you the first to crack it open?

"Reds"
lol
But I dont see how the head would be seated on the block with that there. Is there any possible way that might have been setting on you hydraulic lines and when you pulled the head it bumped it and it fell onto the block?
Unless your saying it fell out of the water passageway, In which case, wtf?

that does look like a bearing for skates/skateboards
does it say anything different other than reds?
i'm pretty sure there isn't a bearing like that in an sr20.

Someone might have stuck that in one of the passages to reduce flow into the head.
I would just go without it. There are NO SEALED BALL BEARINGS IN THE SR20 ENGINE.
In the trans yes, but not in the engine.

totally agree, it almost looks like one of the spacers for the fuel rail, but the only way for it to have gotten in there is if you took off your intake manifold and dropped it into the head, in which case it would have had to have found a way past the valve.
was the motor knocking or did you have any sort of valve tap?

pretty sure there arent any passages large enough for a bearing that size to go through..
im going with jskateborders here.. might have just fell off somthing and landed there

that looks exactly like a "pilot bushing" that I received with my SPEC Stage 3.
i never used it.. just sat around till a buddy took it to try on his skateboard wheels.
