ive got a set of spl tension rods from my s14 (gone) that i wouldnt mind keeping to put on my s13. problem is the s14 arms are longer than the s13 version.

my question is, do you think it would be safe to just measure and drill new holes in the front member that they attatch to? theres about .5" i could go forward.

I would NOT advise it. The OEM design for the front tension rods are set to be optimum. I would think driiling holes and relocating the front mounting bolt forward would alter the stress point for the rods and brackets. You'll prolly end up breaking something on the track. Just my observation.

Sell them and get S13 ones. I had to part with my Nismo tension rods when I got my S14.... :(

From what I remember the S14 rods are about an inch longer, so you would still be adjusting your rods to near max out adjustment just to make them fit. And wouldn't that leave barely no room for caster adjustment if any at all?

I would just suggest selling them and buying s13 tension rods. You are just wasting time modifying it. I am actually looking for some s14 tension rods. If you are interested in selling those please email me pics, price and more info to [email protected]

You could probably sell them on here, and buy what you need, all in the same day. lol

The OE S14 rods are exactly one inch longer. Drilling the rod brackets isn't a horrible idea, but if you notice the bracket is reinforced where the bolt goes through, so you would want to use a longer bolt and stack a few washers on either side at the very least. More important though, I don't think you'd have the clearance as the bracket tapers off past the bolt hole. You'd end up drilling lower in the bracket, making it even less structurally sound.

i was thinking it would be reenforced there but it wasnt. the steel was the same thickness all the way through. there are holes in the brace to lighten it up so i have limited space to go forward.

there could be a chance of binding

do it right be safe. Get the specific parts and not ever have to worry or have doubt in it.

well i tried it out for the hell of it. they work fine, i had to deliver food with my car all last night and made a point to hit as many pot holes as possible. theres no tearing of the metal or warpage at all. i think im gonna box in the subframe anyways tho.

oh yea, i was wrong about the reenforcement. there was washers welded to the subframe. well see how it goes.

s14 tension rods are longer. You lose a lot of adjustability

actually i gained some, the s14 rods are 1" longer than s13. i drilled y holes 1.5" further so i can pull more caster.

Or you can call SPL and they will allow you to "upgrade" your s14 arms to s13 arms for a reasonable price.

Kouki, there is a good chance they would have done it, but he already drilled through them, and lost the chance. I wouldn't have advised doing that, but GL2U.

He drilled the brackets, not the rods.

sooo.... you could increase camber to awesome levels by getting S13 tension rods for an S14?

its possible but i dont think youd have enough rod to adjust it properly. plus fuck having like 20 degrees of caster!

Caster, not camber.

YES, some people run s13 rods on s14s. In fact, i think i'm running 13's right now. A few s14 rods max out at 7 or 8 degrees, where the 13's allow MMMOOAAAARRR.

castor that is.

For all v2 tension rod owners, you can purchase the S13 or S14 main (aluminum part) rods from us and just swap the adjuster/rod ends over. We sell the rods for $30/pair + shipping.
