View Full Version : Piston #1 at TDC?

Hey guys.  I was replacing my rocker cover gaskets on my '93 FB a few days ago and accidently dropped a wooden stick down one of the spark plug holes (very, very stupid, I know...), so now I have to rip my head off.

Anyways, my question is, how do I make sure that the #1 piston is at TDC on its compression stroke?  Do I have to take note which position the camshafts are in before I remove them, or is there marks or some other method I can use to make sure they are in the right spot when I re-install them?  The FSM isn't too helpful in some aspects, so I thought I ask you guys.

BTW, anyone know of a shop or guy than will port/polish a head in Southern Ontario for cheap?<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

You might not have to pull the head off.

TDC is marked on your crankshaft pulley.

Get some long needle nose pliers and a flash light. Slowly turn the crank until you can see the wooden pole thing. See if you can grab it and take it out. Take off the valve cover it'll be easier that way.

OR (doubt you would want to try this)
Start the motor. Maybe it'll just incinerate itself

Good luck!

Actually at first I didn't even know that the stick was in there, and I did try to start the motor. &nbsp; I accidentally left the main distirbutor wire off, so it didn't start. &nbsp;I pulled one of the plugs to see if there wasany fuel, and there was wood jammed in the recess of the plug!

I will give the plier thing a go, &nbsp;but I'm afraid some of the stick is jammed up under one of the valve. &nbsp;Hopefully it's not. &nbsp;I'm pretty sure that starting the motor will do more damage than good, but if anyone here can confirm that it might fix the prob, i'll give it a go.

Can anyone help me out with the camshafts?
