It's all over the news here. He's retiring. Damn, I'm so disappointed. He had a few really good years left with a good team behind him.

At least he left the game after his magical season last year. Personally, I'm not a Packer fan, but I'm a big fan of Brett Favre. If only more players showed their love of the game like he did. Sorry bro....

Yes indeed. Those are some mighty large shoes to fill. Aaron Rogers is eh. He gets hurt easy. :ghey:
If we can get a decent QB we could be alright. Cause we really do have a solid team.

Everyone that tries to play QB here is compared to John Elway. Going to be the same in Green Bay.

No it's all still there (including the free drunk tour), but they are talking about moving the headquarters to another city since the merger with Coors. They want a neutral location for both companies.

You can't give up on Rodgers yet. I'm no Packer fan, but he's really not that bad. He looked good when he played this year and with a good offense around him, it should take the load off his shoulders. Plus their division is still pretty weak.
I'd rather have Rodgers than Alex Smith.

Many Records To Celebrate
QB Brett Favre carries WR Greg Jennings off the field following the record-breaking TD pass in the first quarter on Sept. 30, 2007, at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.
Brett Favre Tribute
by Mike Spofford, Packers.com
posted 03/04/2008
With Brett Favre retiring after 16 seasons as the Green Bay Packers' starting quarterback (17 seasons overall), nearly every significant NFL passing record is in his grasp.
Some are sure to stand for a long time. Others are already within the sights of Indianapolis Colts' quarterback Peyton Manning. But all are worth celebrating, to be sure.
Here's a list of those significant league records:
Most TD passes: 442
Favre surpassed Dan Marino's mark of 420 in Week 4 last season at Minnesota, with a 16-yard TD pass to Greg Jennings.
Most passing yards: 61,655
Favre connected with his old buddy Donald Driver to break Marino's mark of 61,361 yards at St. Louis last season in Week 15.
Most passing attempts: 8,758
Favre also broke this one last year in Week 4 at the Metrodome, and finished exactly 400 passes ahead of Marino (8,358).
Most wins by a starting QB: 160
Favre eclipsed John Elway's previous mark of 148 in Week 2 last season against the New York Giants. Including postseason, Favre won 172 games. Manning is tops among active QBs with 105 regular-season wins.
Most consecutive starts, quarterback: 253 (275 including playoffs)
The next-longest streak for a QB belongs to Manning, at 160 games (173 including playoffs) and counting. Among all players and documented streaks, Favre came up 17 games shy of Minnesota's Jim Marshall, who started 270 straight contests.
Most 3,000-yard passing seasons: 16
Marino ranks second on this list with 13.
Most consecutive 3,000-yard passing seasons: 16
Manning broke a second-place tie with Marino last season with his 10th in a row.
Most pass completions: 5,377
Favre surpassed Marino's 4,967 completions two seasons ago, with a pass to Carlyle Holiday against Detroit on Dec. 17, 2006, at Lambeau Field.
Most seasons with 30-plus TD passes: 8
Marino and Manning are both a distant second here with four each.
Most consecutive games with a TD pass, postseason: 18
Favre extended this by two more games last season. Once again, Marino is in second place with 13.
Most NFL MVP awards: 3
Six other players, the only active ones being quarterbacks Manning and Kurt Warner, have won the award twice. Favre was runner-up to Tom Brady in 2007 for a potential fourth MVP.

I dont know firsthand, but of course I have heard stories. The wait for tickets, people getting mad at newspapers if the packers arent on top when they are tied for the division lead, hell, weddings at Packers tailgate parties. I hope he doesnt go to another team, I hope he calls it quits while he's still on top. I would hate to see all he's built ruined by all his BS. Hell, give him some sort of coaching/staff job. Keep him in the Packers organization, that would be the ideal scenario in my mind for keeping his legend alive.

I love Brett Favre.
I cryed when he retired. I hope he's not serious. I mean granted there are teams that could use him (Ravens, Redskins) but he retired. He was so sure that that's what he wanted to do... In my opinion he should have waited a few months like McNair and Ogden. They both waited til May and June to make an announcement that they would retire.

EDIT: Just saw it in MSN. Dood what the fuck? Doesnt he realize the repercussions if he does come back? I always had great respect for Favre but this BS is just showing how selfish he is. If he does come back, he aint no better than TO in my book. Holding the team hostage for your personal need is utter BS, specially a team that has stuck with you thru thick and thin...If he comes back, all he's gonna be is a full time distraction. Do you really think Rogers can play 100% when he knows Favre is over his shoulder? Thats a whole lot of pressure for a new QB. If he gets traded, his legacy is over. Every Packer fans are gonna turn on him in a second.

I hated it when hakeem owlajuwon didn't retire in houston.
This would be akin to Jordan playing with the Wizards if he goes to another team. Anyways, hasn't he always been like this? For the past few seasons he's been on and off about retiring. And its not the Packers don't want him back, its that they're sort of letting him know its time to let go. He said himself he feels he can still play but he doesn't have the energy to go through the things necessary to be ready on game days (reviewing film, practice, etc.). So how does he expect to go to a completely different team, adjust to their system and do the things he would have done at GB (review film, go to practice, etc.).

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - A timeline of communication between the Green Bay Packers and Brett Favre, regarding Favre's decision to retire in March and request to be released this week, based on an Associated Press interview with Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy and general manager Ted Thompson on Saturday:
-Week of Jan. 22: After the Packers' overtime loss to the New York Giants in the NFC Championship game, McCarthy tells Favre they hope to take a similar approach to his retirement decision as in the past, allowing Favre plenty of time to make his decision. They agree to talk regularly.
-Feb. 22: Thompson calls Favre after getting word that Favre was upset Thompson hadn't called him in a while. According to Thompson, Favre said, "Well, I don't know where that's coming from. That doesn't come from me. I'm fine with it." Thompson said he reassures Favre: "You know that Mike and me, we still think you can play, you're still our guy."
-Feb. 29: The beginning of free agency, the Packers' original target date for Favre's decision. "He told me that day, he said, 'Hey, if I needed to make a decision today, I would retire,"' McCarthy said. "I said, 'Whoa, whoa, whoa. It's not that important. Ted and I have talked about it over and over again as far as, you're the priority and we didn't need to stick to that date. So you need more time? Sure. How much time do you need? He said, 'I'll tell you what. (Wife) Deanna and I are going to sit down this weekend, why don't you call me Monday?"'
-March 3: McCarthy travels to Austin, Texas, for his daughter's high school basketball banquet. At this point, McCarthy isn't worried.
"We thought for sure he was going to come back," McCarthy said. "I thought he was working, just going through the process, and he needed more time."
But Favre surprises McCarthy by calling and saying he "can not commit 100 percent" to football and is going to retire. McCarthy says he offers Favre the chance to return with a guarantee that he wouldn't have to take as many repetitions in practice.
No deal. McCarthy travels back to Green Bay and the Packers announce Favre's retirement decision March 4.
-March 6: Favre's tearful press conference. McCarthy says he is surprised at how honest Favre is about the reasons behind his decision - particularly about not being able to commit 100 percent to football.
-Week of March 24: During the coaching staff's spring break, Packers offensive line coach James Campen, whose in-laws live in New Orleans, goes up to visit Favre in Mississippi on March 26. On the 27th, Campen tells McCarthy Favre is having second thoughts and McCarthy should call him.
He does, and learns that Favre indeed is having second thoughts. McCarthy and Thompson decide they will welcome him back. They secure a private jet from a Packers board member to visit Favre in person and seal the deal.
-March 29: Favre calls McCarthy to deliver a message: Thanks, but no thanks.
"He felt at this point we had reached a point of closure," McCarthy said. "Those were his words. And he was going to stick with his initial decision."
-McCarthy talks to Favre again the week of April 7 and April 14 and on April 24. On the 24th, McCarthy explains the team's decision to place Favre on the reserve/retired list.
-May 6: With the NFL draft out of the way, Thompson visits Favre in Mississippi and has lunch on his back porch. Thompson says they have a "good conversation," but don't spend too much time talking about the idea that he might be having second thoughts.
"We didn't talk specifically about it," Thompson says. "But he mentioned several things where there was always indecisiveness, or he was wondering if he made the right decision. I think that's normal."
-June 7: During a staff retreat in Kohler, Wis., Campen says he's worried about Favre. McCarthy tells Campen to go to Mississippi - not as an official team intermediary, but as Favre's friend.
-June 16-20: Acting on Campen's advice, McCarthy calls Favre. They play phone tag for a few days but eventually connect. "You and Ted need to have a plan if I do come back," Favre says, according to McCarthy. "Either give me my helmet or give me my release."
At that point, McCarthy asks Favre if he was 100 percent committed to a return. "He said, 'No, no, I'm not saying I'm there yet."'
-June 20-early July: Favre and Campen talk regularly, and Favre's agent, Bus Cook, begins passing messages to the team through Campen. "James was put in a tough spot, and I think he's totally been wrongly illustrated in this," McCarthy said.
-July 4: Favre sends a text message to Thompson, who responds by saying he is traveling and asks if they can talk Monday. Cook begins texting Thompson, and a conference call is arranged.
-July 8: A conference call is scheduled involving Favre, Cook, Thompson, McCarthy and Russ Ball, the team's VP of football administration/player finance, to discuss Favre's request for a release. McCarthy asks Favre if he is 100 percent committed to football - and for the first time throughout the entire offseason, Favre says yes.
"We're trying to be as respectful to him and his legacy as possible, but that's an important piece of the puzzle," McCarthy said. "As an organization, Ted and I, that's the first time any communication to us was, he was committed to play."
The Packers then receive a letter from Cook requesting his release.
"That brings us to where we are, which is a very difficult situation," Thompson said.
-July 27: Packer players report to camp, without Favre, as the quarterback agrees to let Thompson try to work out a trade solution in hopes of keeping Favre from coming to Green Bay. However, only two teams reportedly made an inquiry for the future Hall of Famer — the Jets and Buccaneers, neither teams on Favre's short list of alternative targets.
-July 29: Favre finally faxes his official request for reinstatement to the league. With NFL commissioner Roger Goodell now heavily involved in negotiations between Favre and the Packers, Goodell allows the organization and its former player more time to resolve the situation before ruling on Favre's reinstatement.
-July 30: Reports leak that Packers president Mark Murphy flies to Mississippi to extend a lucrative olive branch: $20 million over 10 years for Favre to stay retired and remain with the Packer organization in a marketing capacity. With Favre considering the offer, Goodell again publicly says he will wait to levy a decision.

Through all this I've actually started siding with the Packers. I love Favre but I'm a Packers fan first and foremost and I want to see whats best for the team. If Favre came out and said, I will sign a contract that i will PLAY for another 2 years, no wish washy BS, then I'd back him. I don't expect anyone outside of WI to truly understand how important Packers football is to most people in WI.
Seriously, the Packers had a SCRIMMAGE yesterday at Lambeau. IT WAS SOLD OUT. Some teams don't have regular season games that are sold out. Many people here in WI don't ever even get to go to a game at Lambeau. The waiting list for season tickets right now on average is 30 years. I'm not joking even a little tiny bit. So you either have to know someone who will sell you some of their season tickets or you pay an arm and a leg for tickets through some ticket place.
I happen to be one of the lucky people that know people that have tickets. He's very old and doesn't go so his kids (who are in their 50's) sell us tickets to THREE games a year. I've been going to three games a year now for the last 5-6 years.
The first time I walked up to Lambeau field was an amazing experience. I almost shed a tear and I had goose bumps.
Yes...the Packets are actually that serious ti WI.
i cant believe they let him back on the team.

All he cares about is himself...he dont give a fuck about the organization that has stuck with im how many years? Lets not even talk about Aaron Rogers, im sure the fans are 50/50 on this considering some wants him back, some dont cuz he's nothing but a fucking distraction. He wants to play, tell him to tell Aaron Rogers himself that he's gonna start.
I agree with you too.
Although recent polls are showing people siding with Favre starting. It was like 63% for Favre, 37% Rodgers.
What really sucks, is that we are supposed to be fucking practicing right now. Not dealing with baby momma drama BS. Sure the rest of the team is still practicing, but it's an obvious distraction.
I'm expecting this year to be very disappointing. I'm going to a pre-season game on the 28th.
Then I'm going to a regular season game in Nov.

As of like 10 min ago:
Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre went into a meeting Tuesday morning acknowledging that he was at a "stalemate" with the team and believed the "best thing for this team is for us to part ways."
Consequently, Favre is unlikely to take the field for practice Tuesday afternoon, pending his second meeting with coach Mike McCarthy.
"We're at a stalemate," Favre said. "Mike and I both agreed last night that me being out there is a distraction and will continue to be a distraction. We all know the reason I'm here is because the commissioner [Roger Goodell] reinstated me so we have a lot of things to figure out. It's simple and complicated, both at the same time."
Favre said the team once again rejected his request to talk to teams about a trade within the NFC North, preferably to the Minnesota Vikings or possibly the Chicago Bears.
Favre clarified reports that he and the Packers have backpedaled on the premise that there would be an open competition with Aaron Rodgers for the starting job.
"Mike told me, hey, we're a better team with you on it but wanted to know if I have a problem with an open competition," Favre said. "I don't have a problem with competing -- you know that, but Aaron should be the starter right now because he's been out here all this time. This is more than about an open competition and I can do that, absolutely, but this is going to be mass confusion and that's not good for this team.
"I'll practice my butt off, if it comes to that, and I think we all know what the end result will be, but this probably isn't going to work. And I truly understand that if I was in Mike's shoes, I'd see it basically the same way he sees it, I'm sure. And I think if he was in my shoes, he'd see it my way. I think we both agree on that.
"They want to know if I'm committed but I want to know if they're 100 percent committed. The problem is that there's been a lot of damage done and I can't forget it. Stuff has been said, stories planted, that just aren't true. Can I get over all that? I doubt it."
Favre, who officially returned from retirement Sunday, met with McCarthy for 5½ hours on Monday night without reaching a resolution. The meeting went long enough that McCarthy had to postpone a planned briefing with the media.
Favre announced his retirement on March 6, and the Packers moved ahead with Rodgers, Favre's former understudy, as the team's new starting quarterback. But Favre, still under contract with the Packers, then followed through on hints that he was interested in a return to the NFL.
The Packers have attempted to work out a trade outside the NFC North, with the New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers reported as likely suitors, but to no avail. And last week, team president Mark Murphy flew to Mississippi to discuss a marketing deal for Favre worth a reported $25 million. Favre has not accepted that deal, either.
Asked what stories have been "planted," Favre alluded to the reports that said he waffled on un-retiring in late March or early April. He said that's "just not the way it went down, at all."
He also expressed anger with the stories that alleged he had a team-issued cell phone that showed the Vikings were tampering with him.
"Again, that was bull on both parts," he said.
"Then," Favre said, "they tried to buy me off to stay retired."
He added, "So they can say they welcome me back but, come on, the way they've treated me tells you the truth. They don't want me back, so let's move on. I don't know where it's headed. We'll see."

I have a very reliable source inside the San Diego org who has a huge tie in the Packer org. Favre is going to be announced as a Buccaneer either today or very soon. Operantly the deal is done between the Pack and Buccs and the only thing that could ruin the deal is Favre himself. He has some stipulation in his contract that he's using to his advantage.
The truth behind the whole drama is Thompson is defending and sticking up for his first draft pick. Plus, Favre was informed that he had no shot due to the the slight offensive gamplan change to suit Rodgers. Favre was very good friends with Ron Wolf, the previous GM. Thompson got the job, and Brett got good info that Thompson stabbed Wolf in the back to get the job, then in an ultimate fuck you to Brett, Thompson drafts Rodgers to replace Favre.
Let the drama continue.

ok. deals done. Brett refuses to play for the Buccs because, and I quote Favre "it's too hot in Tampa" and is now officially a Jet. The Jets will get a conditional 3rd that could turn to a 1st rounder.

I'm not bias because I'm neither a Pack, Jet, or Bucc fan. I'm a Charger fan but I know all the inside info and, although Favre made some wrong moves, Ted Thompson is a dick. I would say Thompson was to blame for about 80% of what happened. I mean, he injected a poison pill to the "QB competition" and really made it pro Rodgers. There was so much that happened that NO ONE knows about it's unreal. I hate to see Thompson treat a legend like that.

From green and gold to green and white. From, "Go, Pack, Go" to "J-E-T-S." From the NFL's smallest market to the league's largest.
Brett Favre (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=1025)'s life did a 180 late Wednesday night, and it happened because Green Bay Packers (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=gnb) general manager Ted Thompson didn't trust Favre, and Favre didn't trust Thompson.
Drag a razor across this controversy's beard and that's what you'll find under the stubble -- distrust, too much scar tissue and the simple yet mind-boggling fact that Packers management thinks Favre isn't good enough to win. If it thought otherwise, Favre wouldn't be the quarterback of the New York Jets today.
Anyway, so much for the Packers wanting to protect Favre's "legacy." Remember that bit of PR fiction? The benevolent, caring Packers would be there to safeguard all things Brett -- that's what they said often in recent weeks. But the protection broke down when Favre decided to unretire and return to Green Bay.
Favre is a Jet because Thompson didn't want him to be a Packer. Or a Minnesota Viking. And who can forget that heartfelt "crossing the Rubicon" statement by Packers team president Mark Murphy when Favre was reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Any icier and you could have played hockey on it.

Brett Favre as he left Green Bay...ultimately for the last time as a Packer.
For all those Favre critics who insist he's a drama queen, remember that he could have stayed in Green Bay, practiced, competed in an open competition with Aaron Rodgers (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=7200) and dared Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy to keep him on the bench. But he didn't. He left after several days because he has more respect for the Packers than the Packers have for him.
Packers management thought Favre wouldn't push for reinstatement and report to camp, but he did. It thought he would take its $25 million of get-lost money, but he didn't. It thought it could break his will by refusing to release him or trade him to the Vikings, but it couldn't.
And nice job on accusing the Vikings of tampering (the Vikes were cleared of any wrongdoing). Plus, wasn't it interesting that someone leaked a story that Favre allegedly called the Vikings on a Packers-issued cell phone (also untrue).
If this were a divorce, then Favre would be the one getting the alimony. The Packers were so eager to ditch the NFL's all-time leader in passing yards, touchdowns and victories by a QB that they reduced the bidding war to two teams (the Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers). And they settled for a conditional fourth-round pick, which will bump up to a third-rounder if Favre takes 50 percent of the snaps (duh), and a second-rounder if he takes 70 percent of the snaps and the Jets reach the playoffs.
Instead of Favre -- who earlier last season helped lead the Packers to the NFC Championship Game and finished second in the league's MVP voting -- Thompson would rather have three quarterbacks on his roster with a combined zero NFL starts. He'd rather have Rodgers than the most durable quarterback in the history of the game.
Brett Favre 2008 Timeline
http://assets.espn.go.com/photo/2008/0803/nfl_a_favre_65.jpg
The Brett Favre saga in Green Bay might be nearing a conclusion after the unretired quarterback said he and the team might be better off without each other. A look at how the story has unfolded:
Aug. 6: Traded to New York Jets for conditional draft pick.
Aug. 5: Left practice facility in the afternoon ... did not practice with the team ... met with Packers officials to discuss trade options ... tells ESPN's Chris Mortensen "the best thing for this team is for us to part ways" ... considers talking to the Buccaneers about a possible trade.
Aug. 4: Favre reports to training camp and is added to active roster after passing physical
Aug. 3: NFL commissioner Roger Goodell reinstates Favre
July 31: Favre offered $25 million to not report to camp
July 30: Meets with Packers president Mark Murphy in Mississippi
July 29: Faxes reinstatement request to NFL
July 25: Favre tells Packers he plans to report to training camp
July 19: Returns to Lambeau Field to attend Packers Hall of Fame ceremony
July 16: Packers file tampering charges with NFL against Vikings
July 11: Packers receive letter from Favre formally requesting release
July 8: Favre asks for release with understanding he won't be starter
July 6: Sends text message to Packers GM Ted Thompson
July 2: Favre says reports of return were "all rumor"
June 20: Favre tells coach Mike McCarthy he may want to play again
April 9: Says he might consider comeback if opportunity was presented
April 4: Agent reportedly contacts teams to gauge trade interest
April 3: Denies rumors of a comeback
March 6: Favre conducts retirement news conference
Jan. 20: Packers lose NFC Championship Game to the Giants in OT
-- Compiled by ESPN Research
Why? It isn't just because Favre wanted to unretire. It can't be. It has to be something as fundamental as Thompson (and maybe McCarthy, too) having lost faith in Favre's ability to win games. If so, Thompson miscalculated yet again.
Thompson's future now depends on Rodgers. If Rodgers gets hurt, the Packers are done. If Rodgers can't handle the pressure, the Packers are done. And Thompson with them.
Of the two finalists for Favre, the Jets actually made the most sense. The Buccaneers already have Jeff Garcia (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=4924), who made the Pro Bowl last season. Meanwhile, the Jets are underwhelmed by Chad Pennington (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5047), who is minutes away from getting released because of his $6 million salary, and Kellen Clemens (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=7798).
The Jets spent $140 million during the offseason on players. They upgraded their offensive line by signing guard Alan Faneca (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=4288), who will fit in nicely on the left side with tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=7753). They upgraded their defensive line (nose tackle Kris Jenkins (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5491)). They have Thomas Jones (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5036) at running back (1,119 yards last season). They have Laveranues Coles (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5107) at wide receiver.
Yes, they're in the same division as the New England Patriots (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=nwe). But they're also in the same division as the Miami Dolphins (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=mia) and the Buffalo Bills (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=buf). They play Oakland, Kansas City, St. Louis and San Francisco. A nine-win season, maybe a game better, isn't inconceivable. At least, not any more inconceivable than Favre in New York.
It will be strange to see Favre in a Jets helmet. It would have been strange to see him in any helmet that didn't have the game's best logo -- that classic G -- on the side.
On the Jets' Web site, you can already purchase a Favre replica jersey for $80. There's also a tortured headline that reads, "DO QB-LIEVE IT? BRETT FAVRE IS A JET."
No, I don't believe it. Not because he's a Jet, but because Thompson just traded the best quarterback on his roster.
"It is with some sadness that we make this announcement, but also with the desire for certainty that will allow us to move the team and organization forward in the most positive way possible," Murphy and Thompson said in a joint statement.
Sadness? Thompson never wanted Favre back to begin with. Plus, the Packers got a draft pick out of it, they saved $25 million in bribe money, and they're still selling Favre jerseys for $179.95. So enough already with the fake sadness thing.
But if I'm a Packers fan, I fly my team flag at half-mast today. Or better yet, raise a Jets flag.
They're only $20 at Jets Shop.

Rodgers is shitty anyways. By the time that Rodgers has any type of productivity, Brohm will be ready to step in and start. BTW, Rodgers is under contract into 2010 and there's also the possibility for franchise tag. It's not that the Packers were afraid of Rodgers leaving, it's that Ted Thompson wanted Rodgers over Favre because Rodgers was Thompsons' first pick as a gm.
Word around the inside of the NFL is that Favre got fucked.
