Ok Ladies and Gents, like most 240sx owners I love my car to death and I love to push my car, sliding my car here and there drifting here and there, my problem is I need new tires cause I am starting to scare myself when I start sliding my car cause of the lack of traction for both my fronts and rear tires.  So I need new tires and I have no idea on the size of tires I can get being on stock s14 5 spoke rims.  Any recommendations?  Some tires that would keep my car from sliding too much?  Looking to spend at the most 300 for 4 tires, so anyone that can point me in the right direction for a great to good deal I would appreciate it a lot, as well as tire width and size and etc.

PS. I also need new front brakes so can anyone recommend me some pretty good brake pads to get me by till I upgrade my calipers?  Around maybe 30-40 price range?

Thanks in advance.

Stock s14 SE alloys are 205/55/r16.  Also, $300 for tires is kinda low, because we have funny sized tires, and most cheap places (walmart, sams club) don't sell them.
But, I would highly recommend Kumho Ecsta (their Z rated tire).  They lasted me 20k miles, were fairly cheap ($80 each, or somewhere close to that), and gripped really well.

Pads... just get some cheap, junky pads until you swap calipers.  Then spend the extra money there.

If your gonna upgrade the calipers later, just buy some el cheapo pads from napa, or auto zone..   you'll be wasting money otherwise.

as for tires..  go with a 205/55/15 Kumho Ecsta 712.  $67 ea, at tirerack.  thats $268 for all 4.  Excellent tires, that last a long while.  best bang for the buck tire I know of.  (I use them)

Of course they also have AVS intermediates for only $43ea.  in 205/60/15.  also excellent tires.  AKAdriver had them on his car at the last track event.

my suggestoins:

bridgestone re730
bridgestone s03
falken azenis
falken st115

cant go wrong
but:

dunlop fm901 (For rear, they suck too soft. mine chunked off on the track..POS tire. but i bought off tire rack 68 each. good for rears on drift events hehe..)

for drifting i suggest
falken azenis up front
kuhmo esta in back.

kuhmos will heat and traction will suck after a bit. azenis rock and you wont have any problems! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

I agree that 712's are your best bet. &nbsp; They are a good all around tire that will give you decent wear (and good wet traction). &nbsp; The 730s, SO3's and $$$$. &nbsp;Azenis are unlikely to last more than 10,000 mi. - and are SCARY in the wet after they are worn.

OEM pads are decent - I'm not a fan of buying the absolute cheapest thing...

Yokohama V4's are a pretty good value. &nbsp;Excellent dry traction, and they drive pretty well in the rain too. &nbsp;Don't flame me or anything for this, but I have heard nothing good about Kumhos. &nbsp;Every thing I read, whether it's in a magazine, or an editorial review..say's they aren't very good tires. &nbsp; But then again, I should probably try them before I down them..

They won Grass Roots Motorsports shoot out of inexpensive high-performance tires. &nbsp;iirc, beating the Azenis as well (due to the wet traction advantage). &nbsp; Now, keep in mind that the test did not focus on the $100 plus crowd...

If there is ONE review I'd trust, it would be theirs.

agreed.. those guys know their stuff.. &nbsp; My next set of street tires will probably be the Kumho MX's.. &nbsp;$112 a tire, and they are saying they are as good as the BFG KD's..

Probably gonna get a set of R-compounds for the track. &nbsp;Kumho Victoracer V700's if they still have any left when I go to buy them.. (what can I say.. &nbsp;I like kumho..)

Yeah, agreed, Kumho 712s are pretty good for their price. &nbsp;I've ran 205/40 and 215/35 with 17" wheels and they held up well. &nbsp;I have Falken st115s right now they're sticking pretty well so far. (Then again, I'm running 235 rubber) &nbsp; The st115s may be an all season performance tire, but I think it was more targeted toward comfort. &nbsp; From what I heard, they designed them to market to more expensive cars, like BMWs &nbsp;(or thats what a couple different tire places told me). &nbsp; If I had the money, I'd probably get some S-03 Pole Positions. &nbsp; Also, I heard good things about Sumitomo HTR Z series.
