the miata idea is amusing.
but what i find more amusing is the fact that people out there are pressing in bushings with socks AND sandals on....

wouldnt placing it the other way around be easier? with a plate over the bushing?

a miata weights what? like 2300 lbs?
and you'd put MAYBE half of that on the bushing, so 1150lbs MAX
i'd rather get a 12 ton press for $110 at harbor freight.
more than 20 times the available pressing force, more precision and control, and only one tenth the price of a used miata (assuming you don't have one already)
my conclusion: two thumbs down

There are a couple things missing from the pic though.
1: BEER!!!!!
2: marlboro reds
3: straw hats
4: blood gushing from whatever appendage you fucking rednecks managed to cut off with this dumb-ass idea!
And for the love of god why the hell are you doing it in the dark????????????????

Thinking and renting are not words understood by rednecks.

just a thought, wouldn't a C-clamp work too? it slower with more control I guess, but keeping it in place is hard.

A bench vise works too. I have pressed in A LOT of energy bushings (including the ones the rednecks are pressing in with a fucking miata) with a bench vise. It's a pain in the ass, but it works. If we had a decent fucking hydraulic press at my shop I wouldn't have to resort to a damn vise.

Yes, I did my entire s14 with one large one. Once I got the learning curve out of the way it went really quick.

I used my parents van to install a goped tire back in like 8th grade. I put it on the head of the jack and jacked it up instead of lowered it down.
If you dont have the tools you have to be creative

ENERGY BUSHING INSTALLS TOO!
Wait you are doing energy bushing installs without a press, just a vice? Go get a press!!

I use the press to remove the old bushings and sleeves and I use a combination of a vise and a press to install the urethane bushings. We have a press at my shop, it just doesn't like to press straight sometimes so the vise is easier to use. I have installed 4 240 kits and one honda kit like this and it works fine for me. I have never damaged a bushing or an arm using this method.

i bought a benchtop a-frame press at harbor freight for like 50 bucks... it's easier to store than a miata

^ I have the a-frame 12 ton and it is a pile of shit. I already snapped a bolt and bent the top portion of the frame. I think the H frame is a stronger design.
