A brand-new problem on my nearly 100% stock '96 240 with about 175k miles. I've got a rough and/or low idle when starting the engine when it's cold, and unless I give it gas it stalls. Once the engine warms up it drives and idles fine. Not really sure where to start although I imagine it's a pretty simple fix.

There are about 2,000 threads on here. Your best bet would be to search. =)

Yeah, I did a search for "rough idle" and found nothing that related to my problem specifically on an S14.
I don't know much about car repair but I can do some minor work myself. I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter about eight months ago so I can't imagine that would be it (and it seems to run fine when it's warm). The spark plugs aren't new but they're platinum NGK from the Nissan dealer and they're probably have less than 40,000 miles on them so I can't imagine that it's those either. I could pull them out but I wouldn't really be able to tell if they're worn by looking at them. So I'm not really sure where to go from here. Anyone?

Well so ive heard that also the gas u put in your car is very important say that your putting 91octane on a motor whos compretion is not that high your motor after a while starts getting bad cold startings and wen pressing the throttle it would have a tendecy to stall while the motor is still cold so if u have a KA SOHC OR DOHC make sure u put 87-89 but thats if u put that type of octane on ur car if not then it could be somethimg else with your fuel pump or fuel filter that could have gone wrong. This is just to give u a hint bro

Ah, the ka rough idle. Can be a few things...
first check your vacuum lines, the smallest pin hole will cause this. I just found one on mine that I missed the first time I had the engine out of the car.
second get a can of intake cleaner, pull off the medium size hose off of your intake that goes under the throttle body and spray about a half a can down there while someone is keeping the car running. The car will want to stall but it needs to keep running for this to work.
third replace the fuel filter
fourth replace the spark plugs and check your timing.
Do this stuff and get back to us.

Thanks so much for the reply.
