hey guys i just recently picked up a set of q45 calipers and i was wondering if bead blasting it would do an harm? i know that i will probably have to take off the pistons and the boots to bead blast it so i am planning on rebuilding them as well. can i bead blast the inside walls where the pistons sit into or will i hav eot block that section off. i am trying to take off the grease and oil that is on the calipers. i want to make it look nice and clean. thanks- kouvang

If your using a glass media of (80 grit) you can blast everything, the glass wont penetrate the rubber dust boots on the pistons but also keep from blasting them if you dont have to. You would have to sit there for quite a while in one spot to start to do any damage at all.

I did this to my Z32 brakes. Clean them real good before putting them in the blasting cabinet. After that cover up that wall, or what I did was i placed the caliper face down and shot at it from the top so it only hit the outside of the caliper, and not the inside where the caliper fits.

i would recommend taping up the cylinder where the piston goes. and taping up any other holes. and then u can go at it with out any fear of any glass media getting stuck in the side of the cylinder wall and scaring it(causing a fluid leak).

I would take the caliper all the way apart. Cover the brake fluid inlet line and the "cylinders" where the brake piston is so you do not damage the walls.

When you blast stuff, the glass or what ever you use gets everywere on the item so be sure to cover or close off where you would not want it to get. And be sure to clean the caliper extremely well after you are done(lots of water and air)
