Ok so I have a redtop SR s13. When the z32 MAF is plugged in, the car starts chokes a bit and dies and when I unplugged the MAF it starts and idles fine but when I take it above 2,500 RPM it chokes and wants to die. I have ordered a new z32 MAF hoping that it will take care of the problem but wonder if it could be something else?? Thanks for the help.

Well I do know that when you unplug the MAF it puts it in a "safe mode" and will not let you rev past 2500. Hope that helps a bit. What have you done to electronically compensate for the Z32 MAF?

dont think your ecu is calibrated for the z32. the inner diameter of the maf sensor is greater than that of the sr maf

The ECU was chipped by RS Enthalpy for the mods I have, Forced Big28 Turbo, 550cc injestors and the car was running ok before which is why I am thinking my maf might have gone bad. Is that possible? Do these Mafs give out easily? Thanks guys

MAFS usually don't.... why do you volt meter and see if it is working and giving correct voltage. Messed with anything else lately?

yeah I guess I forgot to mention that my buddy put in a new wiring harness and we pulled the engine out to clean off and redo the engine bay.

I would recommend checking a couple things just good general things to check cause they almost always get overlooked. First, I would check for vacuum leaks, everywhere, find a method and use it, I prefer the smoke machine test myself.
Also, make sure there are no leaks in your piping after your maf... I have seen quite a few sr's have this simple problem.
Good luck.

Oh and don't hook up the z32 maf without having an safc or something to compensate for the difference in signals. Or you engine will run like crap.

Either a bogus tune, or your wiring is messed up.
Z32 maf needs to be configured to run properly, either with a afc/computer upgrade, or a correct burnt tune.

i'm guessing you used an SR harness? when your friend re-wired it, he had to extend the maf plug. did he use shielding when he extended it? or did he just wrap it with electrical tape. it sounds like your maf wiring could have a short somehwere also.

yeah thanks for the help. He did use shielding and I will go over that wiring. We did use an SR harness.

will not using shielding mess it up enough to cause it to run bad?
