View Full Version : Manual TX neutral switch does not conduct; does it matter?

On an S14 manual transmission that I plan to install, the neutral switch does not conduct while in neutral or any other position. My inquiry is whether this is normal, a defect, or doesn't matter.

In one tranny-swap write up I read that the sensors/switches may be tested with an ohm-meter. I have used this to confirm the identification of the reverse switch on the transmission and hoped likewise for the neutral position sensor.

The transmission was functioning properly before removal. However, at any position the ohm-meter reads high impedance from the neutral sensor; never conducting.

Recommendations? Proceed as normal this is typical; resolve this connection issue first; or proceed this connection is not critical?

Thanks

steve

Bad switch probably. You don't need it, just leave it unhooked or buy a pipe fitting to plug the hole.

hehhe actually I have a bad PNP switch too, I'm thinking of fixing it. Anyhow, can this sensor affect your mileage? because I noticed since the cel is on, my mileage drop from 28 to ~14mpg.

Has nothing to do with emissions or mileage. It simply tells the ECU when the car is in neutral, nothing more.
