View Full Version : Getting Tie Rod End Off

I took the safty pin out, and the top bolt thinking the tie rod end would drop. it didn't so i been hammering it, and it's not moving. Could anyone gimme some tip?

do you need it? or are you replacing it? just smack the hell out of it with a big hammer. it'll drop.

had the same problm. even rented the tierod end remover from pepboys. did not good. had to take it to a shop and even then they had a tough time. i think they had to use some kind of air chisel to get it off. good luck

I used a Honda spacer. Hammered it in enough to break it loose.

use a pickle fork and a hammer. just wedge it between the tie rod boot and the spindle and beat the shit out of the end of the fork with a hammer.

Don't hit the rod end stud portion directly with a hammer, you will damage the stud (and render the end unusable)
Yeah if the end is messed up anyone who cares, but still, always better to have for emergency or something
I've found that if you don't have a puller, you can hammer the side of the spindle and the rod end will typically drop out

just screw the nut back on (a few turns) then hammer it down

thanx guy, i got it off already, and got the tie rod ends and inner tie rods on, great tips, very helpful, didn't wana damage anything so i wasn't hitting it all that hard.
