I've decided that i should really replace my steering rack bushings before this next season starts, and obviously I wanna go with something stiffer, and aftermarket.

Whats everyones favorite? And where do i buy them?

one nismo one energy

That's only for S14 racks.

S13 racks can use both ES bushings.

I have an S14.

What do you mean 1 ES and 1 Nismo?

Where are you guys buying these setups?

SPLparts.com sells the "S14 kit", which is 1 Nismo and 1 ES.

They also sell the S13 ES bushings, but you can get those anywhere that sells ES bushings, really.

The Yanack solid metal "bushings" can be purchased from rhdjapan.com

On my s-13 the neregy bushing that is just round and goes around the tube is loose for some reason, so I had to hack up my old stock bushing and insert the rubber between the energy one and the rack tube. I don't know why it was like that, but it was. I wouldn't reccomend energy ones for that reason. I plan on buying the yanack solid aluminum ones for my next set.

^ You might have an S14 round bushing or something then, as I think Russ said that that would happen if you had the wrong bushing from ES for the rack.

S14 rack = S14 bushing, S13 rack = S13 bushing.

On mine, I know I have an S13 rack, and thus ordered the S13 bushings. They fit just fine, no gaps, no looseness, no crappy anything after that. Steering is very solid and the turn-in improved a bunch.

Perfect. This was the info i was looking for! Thanks man!

Now what would be the disadvantage of going with the Aluminum ones? Any bad reports at all from steering feedback on highways etc?

Well the bushings were in my s-13 master kit, so maybe I ended up with an s-14 rack when I got it re-built. That is totally possible as most re-builders miss subtle differences like that. I'll order a set of s-14 energy rack bushings and see if that helps.

I would guess that you will get more road vibration through the steering wheel, but I have never personally drove a car with them in it.

actually the new energy steering rack bushing kit now works with s13 and s14 comes with 3 bushings you only use 2 for the designated chassis

Ya I bought my current bushing kit like a year ago, so I doubt it is the "new" one.

I have es bushing for the s13. works great, helps with the slop and not much noise is noticeable.

Huh well this whole 3 bushing thing is news to me.

I got my Nismo rack bushings about 3 years ago on eBay and they fit my S14 perfectly at the time. Sold the car and threw the bushings on my 91', fit and looked identical. THEN sold that car and threw them in my old 97'. THEN wrecked that car and threw them on my current 95'. Again fit and looked identical. (whew)

I'm confused.....

....but then again, I'm always confused.

You know with regards to upgrading bushings, I inherited a strange steering column/wheel rattle when going over bumps in my old 96' when I swapped in the Nismos. But it hasn't been back in any other car I've thrown the same bushings in. Wierd.

aluminum steering column bushing

Get this. It's under $30 and worth every penny.

Not on an S14. It doesn't exist.

Whoever said the new ES kit comes with three bushings, you're correct. The tear drop bushing for S13, S14, and Z32, round for S13 and Z32, and round for S14 are all included in the package. Otherwise as stated, the round S13 bushing does not fit tightly on an S14 rack.

Yes yes.. The kits did not previously fit. Nismo's quality is better than ES anyway.

nismo isnt urethane though.

Well i guess i'll be getting the best of both worlds lol The SPL kit apparently has 1 ES and 1 Nismo

Correct! The Nismo bushing is just regular rubber, like the OEM one, and will therefore degrade over time. I bought the ES ones from powertrix (Charles, he's an advertiser here) with the rest of my bushings and can't wait to install them :)

does alignment change after installing steering rack busings?? i would assume it would if your rack off center or soemthing and with the new bushings you centered it

bigOdom1

these things basically slip in and out the have a slice in them for easy install.

the nismo and es kit that spl sells is what i have i just put it on a month ago, no problems feels great.

ALL parts wear over time. as a responsible driver you should inspect your car to see what needs repair, the only way to never have to replace anything is to never drive the vehicle

to be honest alot of the old school road race guys used to make their own before companies started making them.

The most popular thing was to make some out of very tightly wound electrical tape. You would wrap the rack until you make a diameter about 1/4 larger than the original bushing size.

Then wrap some side pieces about 1/2 size larger to hold the rack in place.

Acts just like a solid bushing.

Lmao thats priceless ^^^.

Who the fuck cares if they wear out over time?? They will take 10 years to wear out. Who hear is going to own that same car in 10 years to give a fuck about having used nismo instead of ES????? If OEM makes it, buy it. Aftermarket will never compare to factory parts, ever.

So you like your car stock with pure NISMO parts? :ugh:
