6.5" up front look like they'd fit... but there is no way in hell 6x9 will fit in the rear. Why would you want them, anyway? They produce bass, but sound like ass. Get some subs, run 2-way 6.25" up front, 3-way 6.25" in the rear, and some subs. That is quality sound.

Every speaker is different in different cars. If your friend has JBL and they sound good in his car, they might not sound good in your car. Then you have a budget to worry about, prefrence of manufacturers... I don't like opinion questions.
If you want the best, MB Quart or Boston Accustics are really nice. I have Polk Audio in my doors and rear.. and they are beautiful. Deafening music, sharp, clear trebel and no distortion. I have them hooked to a crossover, and they don't play sounds below 125Hz. Then I have 3 subs, crossed so they don't play above 125Hz. It is clean, crisp, and has blown my trunk latch apart.. but anyway. Ultimatly, the speaker choice is yours.

There are those who do not prefer subs and I think solid 6x9s would be a good option to look into. Of course, I am getting old and thumpin' 'n' bumpin' is not really my idea of fun, quality listening. Usually, the stereo stays off and I just listen to the engine purr, the turbo spool and the exhaust hum.
Enjoy the ride.

I have Infinity 3-way 6.5's in the front and 2-way 6.5's in the back. They are very good for highs, I have a nice clear sound to the music. As for subs, I not a big fan of 2 10's or 12's...you know bigger meaning better (which is not true).
If your going for a sub go with something simple, because your amp is delievering(sp) more power to just one compared to two. Just think of it as pushing your sub at its full potential rather than 50%. Does that make sense?
I'm going to keep my sound simple and clean...I'm going for the Basslink. It's a combo of a 10" sub and amp, can mount two way and will fit nicely in that corner of my trunk. Has enough bass for what I need, plus its cheaper (for me atleast) than buying a sub and an amp.

150 watt sony xplod 3-way 6.5s all around here, along with a single 800 watt 12 in the trunk... The factory clarions I shitcanned were 6.5s too.

Sure... it would be a good option to look into, but they just won't fit there. No way, no how. They will need serious cutting and customizing to make fit, so if he wants bass, even in the slightest, why spend money to put in 6x9s when I'm sure subs would be the cheaper way to go?

while i agree with this, i am also inclined to listen to technically complex music.
ex. 6x9's tend to rape Bach to oblivion
in my experience they are sloppy
i personally prefer tight, accurate reproduction of, sometimes, very technical music, as such, i am eventually working towards
silk tweets up front, boston 6.25 coaxial 2 ways front and rear, and a singlar ten with a slightly oversized amp to eliminate clipping (pure evil)

I guess with the coupe and the fold-down seats, a person could put up a closed air partition with a small sub. Would make for a nice stealthy setup without sacrificing trunk space.

Well, they are listed as 6.5", but they are actually oversized 6.5" (basically a 6.75" speaker) There are a few manufacturers out there that make oversized 6.5's...And quite a few 6.5s will work with a mounting plate. I have Focal 165K's up front and MB Quart RSB218's for rears (had to custom mount the tweets) and it sounds great.

yeah, that's what i thought. they're 6.75" rather than 6.5". i've been looking for speakers for my s14, and not sure quite to get. 6.5" speakers won't fit unless u have a mounting plate, right?

damn... I called Crutchfield and they said they were 6.25" front and rear. So I bought them, and installed them in my '96, and they seemed to be 6.25" cuz I didn't need a funny mounting plate.
Dunno man.

They are 6.75". I have Cerwin Vega, Vega 6002's in the front and some Pioneer craps in the back....both are only 6.5's so i had to custom mount them. Sounds nice up front tho!

i took my doors off and found that with a little custom work, and time, you can fit 8's in the doors!!!!!

If you want the best bang for the buck nothing beats CDT Audio. I'm using a 6.5 driver with a 1 inch silk tweeter. Everything mounted just fine without any custom work. If you have any questions about CDT audio...email or AIM anytime.

thanks for the replies guys, honestly i thought i would have been flamed a little bit and told to search or something. Least i didnt ask which sr is better, or should i turbo my ka or get an sr..lol anyways i basically want a decent setup nothing to flashy with just a little bass to even out the sound, thats why i was thinking about 6x9s....i heard the alpine type r 6.5in 2 ways and 6x9s and i hought those sounded really good. But in the end im still unsure of what to get. Im just a poor 16 year old who wants some music to listen to until ive got enough to swap in my sr w/ 5sp swap ( 5sp s14's are impossible to find) - jeff

and dont even THINK about replacing your inside speakers without throwing away the factory amps..

I only had to bypass the factory amps to use the BACK speakers. As for the fronts I disabled the pillar tweeters.

no... 6.5" in fact... it's the "6.5s"... I dunno, that's what's known in the industry. Designed for speaker chasis w/ 4 mounting holes and not 3. This means when you get Boston Accoustics, you'll have to tap two of the holes yourself.

i got kicker k65's all around run by a 500w audiovox rampage (sounds so much better than running from the deck and it was only $50) and 2 10" eclipse alums powered by an xtant amp
