Ummmm yeah it's bad over here.
But as long as you stay out of those areas then its okay.
But all it takes is to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Some of my customers are in those really bad areas and I only go there during the daytime. So it's kinda okay.
Alex loves to watch the show, I sometimes watch it. Just to stay on topic. lol

I watch it and it's not really news to me. There are gang wars in ALL cities in LA, it's just that in the nicer areas you dont hear about shootings, stabbings, etc as much. Certain cities with reputations down play murders and it doesnt turn into a media shitstorm.
I lived in a rather wealthy city, but i would still get guns and knives pulled on me if i was at the wrong place at the wrong time.
This is LA and most major cities for you.

That's not called a gang when you just kill innocent people for no reason, that's called terrorism and they should be dealt with the same way terrorists are dealt with. That's just my opinion. I really don't want to say it, but they should screen and increase security from illegal immigrants from coming into the US because it looks like most of these terror attacks are from immigrants.

Parent's used to own a Donut Shop @ South Central LA. Sold it 2 years ago. Seen a lot of shit go down there.
Owned it for about 12 years? All the cool customers that was my age when I started working there, as I grew up with them, probably 85% of em turned out to be murderers and ended up being arrested or got killed.

I agree with this completely...except for the immigrant part lol I think it would be hilarious to see the army rolling into LA and kicking down doors and arresting gang members

There are all sort of gangs. Sure many are immigrants but from my personal experience most are 2nd generation immigrants, US citizens born here.
For me it used to be worse in the late 80s. I would walk to Jr. High trough 18 Street neighborhoods and got stopped and asked 'where I was from' on an almost daily basis. Lot of younger kids back then.
Nowadays I think that gangs have actually slowly moved away from petty crimes - jumping kids for their lunch money - and into heavier stuff like drug trafficking and weapons. They don't seem to bother regular people as much as they used to. Not good for their business to bring unwanted attention to their profitable illegal activities.

I work in North Long Beach. its kind of a bad neighborhood. a few months ago i heard a car fly down the street in front of my work. i looked outside and saw a car chasing another car. the first car lost control and ran into a fence. one of the guys in the car following got out and put 2 in the guy that crashed head. then just got in the car and left.it happened less than a 1/4 mile from my work.

Last year some family moved to KC from inner LA to escape gang violence because they didn't want anything to happen to their son and daughter, and a few weeks after they moved here their son got stabbed and shot to death in a random mugging, it was story on the news here, pretty messed up.

Yeah I always tell them sorry for waking them up at 1pm in the afternoon.
I live in kinda of a bad neighborhood but in a enclosed gated townhome place so it's okay.
One time I was outside of my front door step smoking a cig. when this guy came up to me looking pretty fucking high off his mind asked me for a cig also. So I gave him one since it would've been awkward to say no when I'm holding the pack in my hand. Then we get to chating and he's telling me about how he was chillin down the block and some old school og disrespected him and he was about to go find him and stab his ass. Then he pulls out from his waist this big ass knife about 8 inches long. He shows it to me and I'm thinking in my head, damn I'm glad I gave him a cig. He then proceeded to tell me more in detail about what had happened, but in spanish. I just stood there nodding my head and having an awkward laugh. At last I made up some excuse to go inside and haven't seen him in a while.
Yeah. That's about it. There's a lot of crazy shit that happens, but since I'm not in that lifestyle I don't know about it anymore.

interesting thread ill have to catch an episode when i get home..
I live like 40 minutes away from LA.. Inland Empire. we get all teh lil wannabe gangstas. In highschool there where tons of lil wannabes.. i wonder if they are still alive today.. unfortinutly the ones im thinking of are hispanic.. no offense. it really sucks. I know of a few asian gangsters too.. what pisses me off is there are some nice girls *university girls, nursing students etc* that get involved with these guys and end up reproducing.. I was talkin to this milf, but she kept bringing up her ex and shes still stuck on him and shes a med student too..
My mom and bro used to live in some pretty bad nieghborhoods in the 70s. She move out of there for the sake of my brother.

The one about the "Latin Kings" in NY was pretty freakin' intense.
The main guy was/is super paranoid, Like N. Korea paranoid. He had all sorts of his captains and such killed, their families too.

I liked the one about Nicky Barnes, the heroin dealer in the 70's. His character appeared in that Denzel movie American Gangster. I saw interviews with him and heard him on Howard Stern. I think it's funny to see him because he looks like any other 70 year old man. Except that he used to throw people off bridges and probably worse. I think I heard a story where he caught some guy stealing and he had a "talk" with him. The guy shit himself.
I hope they do an episode on the Golden Dragon massacre. Everyone (who was alive at the time) remembers that around here.

I think different episodes deal with different gangs, this one happens to be about the Surenos and Nortenos and the Mexican mafia.
When I was a kid there all type of gangs: Latin, White, Black... all depends what area of LA you'd be in.
But thinking that all LA is bad because of that show is also pretty dumb. I mean I live in the Crenshaw area and yeah it's a rough area but if you know how be smart you won't be caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

yeah there are gangs around here too...Ive seen latin kings and shit around all decked out in yellow and black. And there is a growing gang problem in the city next to the one i go to college in...2 years ago we we went to this halloween party...I go to school in salem MA so halloween is huge here and everyone is out. But anyway we saw these kids getting arrested, and apparently they had been in my friends party earlier, they were cambodian dudes dressed in all red...the cops busted them like right after they left the party and it turns out they were carrying machetes in their pants...
parts of boston are really nuts too...lots of random shootings everyday, this dude I was cool with freshman year was from a real sketch ass part of boston and they found him in a car shot in the head earlier this year

the thing about it tho is so many of the neighborhoods they showed looked like any other neighborhood, and its all like certain blocks...so i feel like id move to LA and have no clue of what is around me and what areas not to go to lol...at least here the real dangerous places look like shitholes...when I went to LA so many places looked the same....
lol funny cause I was watching it at my friends house last night, and I was sitting on the couch wearing a grey shirt and a blue hoodie and i was thinkin damn id probably get shot for wearing this in certain parts of LA....

It's scary though, look at one of the gangsters in a wrong way, and that could be your last day alive. I have a shaved head, so I try to wear neutral colors, but even that can get you killed.

From my experience it doesnt really matter if the gangsters are wannabes OR real murderers. If the murderer has a gun, they will pull the trigger without hesistation. If the wannabe has the gun, they will still pull the trigger being scared shitless inside. Most likely the wannabe will be some immature kid trying to protect a stupid reputation.
When a person has a weapon, they feel powerful, gangster or not. If an idiot feels they have somethign to prove, they will use the weapon without thinking.
I liked the one about Nicky Barnes, the heroin dealer in the 70's. His character appeared in that Denzel movie American Gangster.
Denzel played Frank Lucas, Nicky Barnes was the other big dealer in New York at the time.
Usually if you dont want to get shot when you see gangsters, dont look at them. Simple.

Me and a buddy walked to a Denny's or something after a party in a ghetto ass part of palmdale at about 3 in the morning once.
The only thing that happened was some tweaked out hispanic guy asked us if we knew where he could get some meth. We said no. Then he gave us directions to the place...
