i just bought a brand new Greddy FMIC and i want to put it on tomorrow. unfortunately i also bought an FRSport hot pipe and neither of the two mentioned items have a nipple to feed a pressure source to the wastegate. what im wondering is, is there another spot that i can tap this source or am i screwed and need to get someone to weld a tap onto the hot pipe?

you can run it from your throttle body, the big nipple on there that goes to the charcoal can

I would just have a nipple welded on, its the right thing to do...

Just have it welded now and get it out of the way, no worries later..

T off the TB or manifold.

tie it off your TB.. there is nothing wrong with that

I thought it was a bad idea to T off to the wastegate actuator? Increased risk of overboosting and all that?

huh?^
T the wg of what? the TB?
my old sr20 used the TB for a source in the setup that it was running, and it did well...
my new sr20 has a source from the hotpipe,.. i mean thats the best thing to do, but the TB should still do fine

I agree and it makes complete sense. you need a nice clean source for your WG actuator. you don't necessarily have to weld, but you can def find a local company to weld a fitting so you can then screw a barb inito it (use teflon tape!) OR you can perhaps source one of these locally:

this taps into a coupler, which is what i will be doing for my boost gauge :)

There's a difference between using the throttle body or intake manifold as a vacuum source, and T'ing off of a line that's already being used for something else. Yeah, it should be fine to use the throttle body as a vacuum source; the hot pipe is more ideal, but not necessary.
Having one line coming off of the throttle body or intake manifold, and then T'ing that line off to two different destinations (i.e. BOV and wastegate actuator) is NOT a good idea, by all accounts for the most part.

Yeah, its ideal to come off the compressor housing or hotpipe.
but every crap S-chassis on the planet Tees it off the throttle body with 8 other things attached to it and it doesn't matter.

Here's how I did mine:

$2 NPT-to-hose barb fitting from Home Depot. Drill, tap, wrap fitting in teflon tape, screw it in, done.

Zilvia trips me the hell out somtimes. The SAME exact issue I have going on with my car right now, a thread is made about it at the very same time  btw I like that tap fitting onto the compressor outlet.....

to start off...my reading comprehension apparently blows because i looked at the instructions in the Greddy kit and the damn thing tells you to tap it off of the line thats running from the throttle body to the canister. not only that but it provides you with the T fitting to do so. i went ahead and installed it that way and everything seems to work perfectly fine. i have been monitoring things very carefully watching for any irregularities and i have not come across anything yet. im still not condoning that this is the best way to install it cuz obviously it would be better putting it as close to the turbo as you can, but it does work if you are in a tight spot and cant find anyone to hook you up the right way. thanks for the info guys.
