I recently just stripped my back seats out of my car and instead of having bear metal show I decided to carpet it with subwoofer carpeting and it turned out pretty well. I was just wondering what other people thought of it.
BTW I have this posted over on northwestnissans I just wanted to see what you guys thought of it.

personally i would prefer if it was just bare metal...but that looks pretty cool...i think it would look better if the carpet was black instead

Looks nice, but I hate that gaping hole. I noticed this last night looking at xfallen1x's car, hatchbacks looks so much better stripped than coupes.
A block off panel would clean it up really nice and you could cover it in the same material.
I'll be covering my coupe's trunk plastic pieces in black subwoofer carpeting and will probably do a layer over the oem carpet just to give it some thickness and strength.

thats a good idea
I'd rather leave the seats in
Anybody who's removed them before will realize that they weigh a negligable amount, and unless there's some specific reason why you can't have that extra 7 lbs in the rear...I would keep them
Having a stripped S14 was the biggest mistake of m life

I'm not even gonna lie, I have been inspired, I think I will make use of this speaker carpet in my storage house sometime soon.
you may as well remove the sound deadening while you're at it
I gutted just my trunk and I hear little rocks/pebbles, raindrops, and rattling all the time.
I can imagine a complete gutted car would be much worse, may even need to wear ear plugs on the track so you don't damage your hearing.

I am not sure if the Coupe rear seats are different then the Hatch rear seats, but I have sold, and shipped, 2 sets of rear Hatchback seats, and they are actually 23-25 pounds for both sections; just wanted to point that out. I think it looks good, Black would have looked a little better in my opinion, but you did a real good job, can't deny that.
would look better if it was darker, pretty cool tho. dont remove your sd if this is your daily. no point.

agree.
if youre going to strip the back seats to save weight, why put carpet in? if youre concerned about how it looks, why take the seats out in the first place?
those things aside, i think it looks good with the carpet, but why bother?
I think it looks great.
I'm going to do it in my next car.
I hate gutted cars, but this looks really good.

Yeah that does look neat the way you do it.
Much better than w/o the covering.

sweet, looks good. thats a good way to keep the inside of the car quiet. i might consider doing it to my s14.

It does look good! Honestly is there a reason for s14 back seats? Do people actually sit in them?
I know I took mine out during HS just because I was a cheap ass and didn't want to give rides to anyone.
It looks clean and if you have bass, that shit would rock socks all day long.

no one can fit in the backseats anyway, might as well make it into a 2 seater.

this is a good idea
i was considering doing the same thing to my car but got lazy so i just decided to make a cover for the hole and a flat piece where the speakers are supposed to go instead
your idea is better

my question is how did you get it to lay flat on the floor like that??
DataXUnknown
02-28-2008, 09:45 PM
that is definetly a good idea. gives it a pretty clean look while still being gutted. I don't know if I will end up doing that to my s13, but who knows I have brown interior, gunna change all that this gives me a good idea to start.

IMHO..
It looks awesome. Great alternative to it just being empty, bare metal.
but my question is....
does it stay in place?
i would assume if say you lay something on it with enough weight
the carpet would move across the floor?
any clips?
adhesive?

That looks sick. I don't have the time for that. Even though it looks cool.

I like your set up. Just put some carpet where the seat was.
Trunk on the S14 acts like a sound board. Times I have driven with the rear seats down I have hated it. Exhaust resonates, hear tons of noise.
Some sanctioning bodies require a sealed off trunk.

I took the seats out cuz theres not a point to having them cuz no one fits there, and to avoid the drama of havin someone extra ask you can just say you only have 2 seats.
Reason I didnt go black is the fabric store had this and a funky grey color and I liked this better for the color of my interior and exterior.
To get it to look tight and flush like that you gonna need a buddy and patience.
you have to use the SPRAY ADHESIVE (thats what holds it in place, hasnt moved or untightened yet and its been down for over 6 months) and once you spray the glue you pull the carpet tight and have your buddy or yourself start pushing down and keeping it flush with no air bubbles or slack, just keep doin this and it'll turn out nicelly. just be patient.
Hope that helps at all. thanks for the comments, I just replaced my dash to so now everythings lookin fresh.

i also was planning to do this on my s13. i stripped the interior and cleaned it all with wax and grease remover and am chasing a half cage to go in first so i can then trim the carpet around it.
thanks for the images, certainly makes me want to go ahead with it, although i might try and make it so it is removeable by using velcro or something pads, jsut in case i ever want to put the interior etc back, or the next owner of my car does.

I'm basically going to do the same thing on my entire car since OEM carpet won't fit right after you cut out the cat hump.
I did it in the back of my old car, the best stuff to hold it down with is 3m Super 77 contact cement.
Spray the floor with it, then spray the back of the carpet also.
Let the glue dry, then stick it on and it will never move.
You can buy the carpet to do it with at Autozone, they sell rolls of it for like $6.00.
You can also use nylon loop or square weave capret remnants from the carpet store. It's the really thin stuff they use in commercial buildings and stuff.
If you get it in black or grey, it looks just like auto carpet, and the square weave looks like pignose S13 carpet.

after years of driving a stripped interior on the street in my s13.. i realized its fucking pointless.. lol.. i eventually put back what I could..
Every car after that, hell no i will never do it again to a daily whip.

Unless it's a full track only car... I still don't see the point. My stripped interior on my S13 was the pits, and all the shit added up weighed less then 50lbs.
Looks nice though, if you have to do it, this is the way.

looks good. i dig it. hmmmm..... maybe i should remove my seats too. no one ever rides in the back.

Don't leave it bare metal or I would have thought it was a honda haha....I kid.
With the carpet it looks real nice and clean. I'm definitely digging it, plus rear 240 seats are useless unless you have kids or midgets. Just wondering do you hear more noise now coming from the rear since a lot of the stuff is gone?

Yeah, I was thinking about that the other day. Building a wall in the gap so that I wouldn't have to deal with the other rules when relocating a battery to the back...I'm wondering how thick and what material would pass tech...

a sheet of 16-18g would prob be ok (basically..the thickness of the stock sheet metal thats already there should be ok. but they may require that it be welded in completely, not just tacked in.)

Even if he does, it is only a few mm thick. He can feel for the cap and trace with a razor. I'm sure he will choose to remove that little section of carpet for good afterwards but for now it is fine. It is only the size of a frizbee anyways. Too many easy fixes for that problem to worry about.

looks real good, i used black box carpeting when i did the trunk in my audi out of mdf board, and carpeting. just when you spray the adhesive, lay the down, use a flat or round object and just kneed it so that theres no bumps in the carpet, but do it quick cuz the adhesive drys quick.
