View Full Version : Heating and A/C ventilation

Bare with me guys this might sound kind of confusing, since I'm not even sure how to explain it.

I bought a 91 hatch in September, the a/c and heater worked but the hot/cold lever was broken so you couldn't put it on the heater. Also sometimes it would only go on defrost and sometimes it would only go on vent. But it didn't matter what button you pushed it depended on the mood of the car. Every once in a while when I started the car I would hear a weird noise coming from the heater box area (like a creaking/squealing noise.) Shortly after I bought the car I replaced the control unit for another one that was in better condition. It did the same thing just not as often. Recently I had taken out the A/C fuse (not for troubleshooting, but for something else that needed the same kind of fuse) then I noticed no matter what selector I put it on i would only blow out of the front vents. It never changed until I put the A/C fuse back in. Now it will only blow out of the defroster vents.

I checked the connections and the fuses under the kick panel, they were all good. I've never had to deal with any heating or A/C issues with these cars before and I'm a retard when it comes to electrical problems. If anyone has had this problem or might know the problem any input would be greatly appreciated.

i dunno much about that stuff but sounds to me like you need a new heater core. Pull the dash and replace with one from the junk yard or something...
