i've finally saved 4000 (cnd) and i've been wanting to do an engine swap for a while, so here's the choises, rb20det or rb25det, yah i know that the sr will be way easier but i don't care.
I really need help making this decission, i've searched and i still can't decide.
i can get the rb25 to my door for $3500(cnd) don't know about the rb20.
if anyone could help me out it would be realy great, i want to order it in the next month so it'll be here when the snow is falling and the car's off the road.

I hope you know what you're getting into. You're going to need a new radiator, custom driveshaft, intercooler, possibly a new intake plenum, custom downpipe and exhaust, custom IC piping, etc.
I'm looking to do either an RB20 or RB25 swap myself. I have the resources (time, money, and experienced help). The 20 has semispherical firing chambers like old Hemi's and a torque curve that hits max torque around 2000 rpm and flatlines it to redline. The 25, though, has an extra .5 liters of displacement and a stronger transmission.
Only things I've heard that would be a problem are new mounts (motor and tranny) and the drive shaft. I have no idea how much work those are. There was a post the other day talking about custom drive shafts though, seems you can pick up a lightweight aluminium one for around $400.
Doesn't the rb's intake fit in the 240sx or does it hit the hood? I've seen pics but can't remember whether they had a modified/aftermarket hood or not. For some reason I think it fits, w/out modification to hood or intake.

www.venus-auto.com has the best prices on the rb clips and engine sets, the stock s13 driveshaft will fit on the rb20 (although i dont know about the rb25) and for motor mounts, go to www.unstablehybrids.com, they said they would be available in fall or winter for a few hundred dollars (us). the intake wont clear the hood, so you'll have to notch the support.

I'm not really expert on these swaps (or any swaps for 240 for that matter) but from experience, you'll end up spending WAAAY more than $4000 canadian if just the engine is gonna cost you $3500

oh, sorry i forgot to mension it's the whole front clip for $3500 to my door,
i'm not new to mod's either, metal, engine, fiberglass, you name it, i've done it, so i know what i'm getting myself into.
Shit i even custom turboed a pontiac6000 2.8l cause i thought it would be cool. (not my brightest idea yet)
i know it'll cost more than 4000 but by the time it get to the driveshaft, clutch etc.. i'll have the moey to pay for it.
so the rb25 it is i guess

It's a good project to try out. Though, with the rb25, you'll be more or less pioneering the swap <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'> I honestly don't think there are too many on the forums who can help out much (unless the guy from Unstable-Hybrids swings back by).Anyhow, good luck, and keep us posted on the progress
