View Full Version : Need advice from people who own an SR.
Hey guys!
I am planning for my swap and I still haven't decided on my exhaust. Criteria are the following:
1. Noisiness
2. Performance
Now, I know that a performant exhaust will be loud. I am trying to find a better balance. My choices have stopped ont the following:
1. Apex N1 Dual
2. Blitz Nur-Spec Racing
3. 5-Zigen Fireball
4. Greddy DD (on JSPEC.COM, it looks incredible)
5. HKS Hi-Power
So, if any of you own any of these exhaust on a turbo 240sx, I'd appreciate ANY comments. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> Thanks a lot!

i have the trust DD on my car.. or well had it.. it's SUPER FREAKIN loud, it's for off road purposes and even with the silencer its loud. As for turbo applications i'm sure, it'll quiet down but not to the extent where it'll be bearable. I'm thinking about selling mine... I'll let you know when i come to a decision.

You ran it on a stock ka24de?
are you a person that doesn't really tolerate noisy exhausts or do you usually don't mind? I know that noise level is in the 'ear' of the beholder, but let's say you compared it with a normal N/A Cat-back on a 240sx, is there much of a difference? Do you think there will be a big difference when turbo compared to a NA 240sx catback?
Tell me if you sell it and how much you plan selling it for. I might be interested.

yeah the DD is SUPER loud, on a NA KA as well. its stll loud .the piping is probably more then 3 inches from the cat all the way back. it looks mean but loud ..oh i'm reffering to the s14 model too.
i heard the DD 5 seconds away and around 3 corners in a residential area when my friend came by to visit. its LOUD.

I have the HKS Super Dragger. Bought it from jspec. Make sure you get the turbo version though. Its 85mm, thats 5 mm bigger than the hi-power and its about 130 dollars less shipped. Just some advice. The noise is pretty loud, but it did significantly quiet down imo since I put it on. This is on a KA for now too. I was a little bothered by the noise, but it is considerably louder on the inside, and I havent seen any hassle from the police.
Anyways, on a turbo engine (KA or SR), it should be less noisy. I'm not really fond of huge tipped exhaust (N1 style). That's why I was looking into the DD. Then again, if it's that loud, I'll get pulled over in no time. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/unhappy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':unhappy:'>

turbo cars with turbo exhaust (3in+) are actually quieter than N/A cars with a turbo exhaust. they still have that low rumble, but once the turbo starts spooling, the sound is real smooth. I don't know about the DD, I think it's too loud even for turbo on the street.
What about Apex-i N1 Dual? What is the piping on that? Should that do as a turbo exhaust?
My other choice would be Blitz Nür Spec Racing... Excessively Loud?

Ok i know you wanted info from sr or ka-t people. But I have a friend here civickilla240style and he has the n1 dual on his s14 sr.It is really nice and swwet not to quiet but not as loud at all like my na ka which i have the N1 Dual as well.It is a good exhaust for both na and turbo applications.I would recomend the apex-i n1 dual. The pipeing is like 85-90mm and i goes into a 120mm canister and to 90mm tips.

I have the Blitz Nur-Spec R on my 1997 NA KA and it's pretty loud. I love it though...it sounds real deep and nice. I haven't had any regrets about it. It's a really beautiful piece. I've heard it quiets down substantially with the SR and I can't wait to find out. Hope this is helpful at all

i dont have an sr but since no one seemed to be responding about the n1 dual...its about 2.75-3 inches into two 2.5 inch pipes and the out to the tips that are about 3 inches each or so. Even though mine is/was on a sohc, it was very very smooth it had an almost rb sounding tone. i love this exhaust, ive heard a fireball and thought it sounded like a complete ass.

forgot to add...its only noisy when you want it to be..pretty quiet when it comes to cruising and as far as my tolerance for loud exhausts, im kind of in the middle, i like it at some times but i hate it at others and the n1 dual never made me annoyed with it at anytime and it was on an NA motor so it would even be better with the turbo supression
Thanks guys...
Your input has really been appreciated. I think i'll go with the N1 Dual.
Do you have any high-flow cat to recommend?

The N1 dual is a good choice.. I used to run it on my SR.. it wasnt too obnoxious, I thought it sounded really good. I have since switch to a Bee-R dual N1 style and my new exhaust is a good bit louder.

I have the N1 dual and all I have to say is <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> It was loud at first then quieted as it was "cured". I love it very smooth sound and still has a grunt when you get on the throttle.
And to give you an idea of where the sound is at...I will drive my 5 month old daughter around in my 240 and she will fall asleep <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sleeping.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':zzzz:'>
